It was soon enough used in military in a form of communication and in 2003, it started linking up with businesses. After, a lot of social medias that we still use nowadays like Youtube, Snapchat, and Vine were released. However, in 2018 there is an issue of people being allowed to post anything on social media because some people are strongly influenced by it.

The first step towards a social media-like concept was made by a man names Samuel Morse. He sent a telegraph message from one state to another successfully. (1844)

In 1969, the military had their first crack at communication on a "proto-internet". They tried and succeeded at sending a message to a university, sending the word "LOGIN" but only the first two letters arriving, but nevertheless it was still considered a major success.

Then in 1997 "Six Degrees" was launched. The first social media website. It allowed users to interact with one another.

Then over the next few decades the rate of social media app production flew through the roof. Social media giants such as Facebook (2004), Youtube (2005) and Instagram (2010) were invented to allow interaction between users like never before. Huge attention was brought to these applications as they were the first to be able to offer such services. These applications rack in hundreds of millions of users each month with some even reaching the 1 billion mark.

But in the past few years social media has taken a somewhat down-turn, not economic-wise, but reliability and health wise. People are using social media obsessively and it's incredibly harmful. Not only that but people are now questioning the reliability of these social media apps and the news they spread. These harmful factors lead us to ponder on the future of the internet and how humanity will deal with these issues and this world-wide addiction for social media

Social media originated during the 1800s as the first steps made towards this discovery was in 1844. The first step was made by a man named Samuel Morse. He was able to send a telegraph message to another person. Another big leap for social media was in 1997 when the first social media concept started to thrive. This was in the form of a social site by the name of six degrees. During 2003 there was a turning point for businesses as linkedin provided a platform for job applications and other business related tools. In 2004 the boom of facebook began and it became a worldwide source that was used by millions. Facebook had a domino affect as soon many more social media platforms were arising in popularity. Domains such as Youtube, Snapchat, Myspace, Twitter and Instagram were venturing on their journey of fame.

The current state of social media, although advanced, has become a place to share fake news due to its progression. It is hard to know what it true and what is fake, therefore in the future, steps to filter information should be made.

In the upcoming years people started to connect from all around the world and for example created status blogs. Also people started to create profiles and 'friend' one another. Around the 2000's, apps like Facebook, gmail and snapchat one of the most popular apps today, started to arise. Social media is slowly starting to take over us and manage our lives. Different social media creators could come up with more advanced social media in the future. How will social media change us and the world around us in the future and what will happen?

Unfortunately only two of their original letters "LO" from "LOGIN" managed to get sent over. This was still known as a huge accomplishment.
The real Social Media craze started in the late 1900's when "Six Degrees" was made and from 1997 till 2001 it was the latest craze with over 1 million users. Users were able to interact with one another, and create profiles.

"Friendster" is launched and is immediately a huge success. Google is now trying to buy sites, because of the way people has positively reacted to them, and many sites refuse them, making a big mistake. In 2004, google decides to create its own mail service, known as "Gmail" And in the same year Mark Zuckerburg launches "Facebook", which was originally created for Harvard students, but was ended up letting anyone anywhere have access to it.
For the next few years, Youtube (created 2005) a video making and watching site was created. So is Myspace (2006), which ended up being the most popular social media site created at that time. Social Media was originally used for positive ways, but nowadays, it has taken a huge turn in the wrong direction. People are using these sites and apps for all the wrong reasons, and not only is this harmful to their health but also to the people around them.

Reflection:
The goal of the Socratic seminar discussion was to understand and discuss the question "how does social media influence teen's behavior and interactions with other?" We used evidence and example from an article discussing the costs and benefits of social media. One topic that was discussed was that perhaps if there were more social media apps in which you have to be a specific age to access it then there would much less problems regarding social media since the people using it are more mature and are able to handle it. I do not believe that this would ever happen because the large social media companies want to earn money. Putting an age limit on social media users would mean losing clients and therefore also money. On these large social media companies such as facebook since many people use it, there will also be more information on what is going on and because most teenager's don't want to miss out they will try to continue to use social media. Juan at one point said in the discussion that since social media is global and because of that even if a person is cyber bullied they will not be able to hold these people responsible for any mean things they said. Additionally, he said that teenagers have to learn to deal with the negative impacts of social media. I agree with this however I also believe in order for this to happen they must learn how to use social media and learn to deal with such potential bullying situations. Ella said that social media is like any other addiction and when we were discussing if such addictions can be broken bit by bit, she disagreed because she said that even this would prove to be very hard. I agree and don't agree with this because it also depends on the kind of person which is trying to stop a social media addiction.

Reflection:
On the second round, when I got to observe a people discussing social media, I noticed they each had a very different perspective. For instance one of my classmates, Long, thought that having a higher age limit (18) would help decrease the amount of teens which use social media. He said this because he thought that by 18 teens are much more mature and know how to handle situations better. I understand the point he was making because after 18 years of life you have had many more experiences than when you are 13 years old. At 18 you have met very many people in your life, and have a better understanding towards socially interacting face to face with others. I do agree with his argument but it makes me think wether having this higher age rule work, after all it is very easy to lie to a system about your age.
Another topic which was being discussed was making it possible to

From this socratic seminar activity, we discussed the issue of social media influencing teen's behavior and interactions with others. Zaizai's opinion was that when we decrease the amount of time we spend on social media day by day, we will be less addicted to it and slowly adapt to a new environment without social media. I agree with his opinion after the discussion because I think we can definitely live a happy life without social media. Teens are stressing out to full-fill their likes and wants from the audience and they shouldn't be. We are still growing and we should learn how to love ourselves as just as who we truly are.

Reflection:
Socratic seminar was about how does social media influence teen's behavior. One of the topic was is limiting time of using social media good? Ananya said if we limit the time, teen's will realize that they don't really need social media and I agree with that opinion because if we limit the time, they will find something else to do in that time. Then, they will realize that they can still have fun doing other things. Another topic was which age do you think we should start using the social media. I first thought 18 is a good age to use social media because they will know how should they act in different kind of situation. But now I think 18 is not a good age to start the social media because dunja said social media will help us know the trend. She also said that social media will help us communicate with our friends so if we don't use social media, it could be hard to join with our friends and now agree with that opinion.

When Ichiro mentioned that being rude could be a major problem since due to the anonymity, Juan disagreed by saying people were not anonymous and people who were being rude could be reported by the victims. This made me think that social media platforms already have a very sufficient structure of cyber bullying.

Another topic discussed was about the age limits in social media. While some students thought it would be beneficial to the teenagers to have a higher age limit of 18, Juan and other pupils disagreed that it will be useless since teens could easily lie about their age when they are creating their accounts. This makes me believe that social media platforms are still lacking some structure in age restrictions

The Socratic seminar was on the subject of social media and its impact on teens.

A topic discussed by Ananya was about how social media impacts mental health. I understood that she believes that when somebody is attempting to cut off their usage of social media, it is more beneficial to gradually decrease the time social media is being used rather than a sudden stopping of their usage. I agree with this opinion as I believe that despite having many negative impacts on its users, social media is also helpful to some degree. For example social media makes it possible to communicate to friends and family across the world. It also makes it easier for people with similar interests to assist each other such as if somebody is sick and could not attend class they would be able to learn the same information as their peers by sharing notes.

Round 1:
When we first started the Socratic seminar I was in the outer circle in the first round. I really liked how every single person contributed in the group discussion. One topic that was discussed was "Studies have shown that social media is more addictive than cigarettes or alcohol ". This was from the Social media article. This topic was brought up by Ella and it was always brought up again. I found this really good and interesting since everyone had a say about this certain topic which was good since the outer circle could then understand the topic even better and people from the inner circle could to. One other thing I liked about the discussion was that Ella and Ananya said that they disagreed but in a appropriate way which made the discussion even more interesting since they could then explain their reasoning and sometimes people would even change their mind. I also really liked how every time someone finished their "statement" Mireu asked another question which made the discussion keep on going so there was not a lot of awkward silence.

Round 2:
On one of the questions I asked (What age should people get involved in social media? ) Ichiro, Adya, Dunja, Long had a huge discussion and people disagreed and agreed. I found this really interesting since some people changed their mind and added onto why they changed their mind. Some people said that the age limit for the social media should be 18 since the people would be the most mature. Then I said that people do not want to wait until they are 18 to use a certain social media and other people started to get my point but then also disagreed.

Long, who suggested this topic to the dicussion, said that social media has age limit and should only allow people older than 18 years old use it. He supported his idea by saying that 18 is an appropriate to start using social media since people are mature enough to handle themselves. Then, Juan said tha he partially disagreed and agreed at the same. Then he shared his own idea that younger teens are not necessarily needed to be excluded from the social media community, however, if they make a social media account, it should be something that only particular people are able to see it.

Zai Zai disagreed with her opinion because he thought, that over time, teenagers would be able to adapt to the "No using Social Media rule" but then Ella disagreed and changed my opinion completely as she referred to the article talking about how Social Media was as addictive as drugs and alcohol and it would be extremely difficult for people to change their ways.
2nd perspective: I noticed that when the second group was talking about how an age limit should be set on a platform so only certain people could access it, Huan partially agreed and disagreed. He thought that an age limit is fine and all, but people can lie about their age, and gave evidence to convince us about that. Not only did he do this, but he also added in his own opinion talking about how ages shouldn't be restricted but instead, certain content should be either covered up, filtered, or taken out completely according to the age group.
3rd perspective: I liked how there were many disagreements but they were shown politely and respectfully. They were said in an appropriate way which really engaged others into the conversation and made it more interesting.
