Glam rock is a style of rock music that started in the early 1970s in the United Kingdom by artists that wore make up and theatrical, extravagant clothes.

Musical elements:
Glam rock is simple, electric guitar based rock inspired by 50s rock and roll and bubblegum pop.

Instrumentation:
The instruments commonly used in glam rock were electric guitar, bass, drums and vocals. Instruments that sometimes were used in glam rock songs were saxophone, piano and strings.

Glam rock lost popularity by 1975 but made an influence on later genres such as punk rock, post-punk and Britpop.

In early 1970, Bryan Ferry auditioned to be lead singer for band King Crimson, who were looking for a replacement to their lead singer, Greg Lake. Even though members Robert Fripp and Pete Sinfield decided not to choose Ferry as King Crimson's new singer, they helped Roxy Music get a contract with E.G. Records.
They have made music in art rock, glam rock, pop rock, art pop and progressive rock genre styles.
They were around from 1970-1976, 1978-1983 and 2001-2011.

Dynamic Microphone:
- Dynamic mics are made like a loudspeaker by converting the sound to an electric signal
- They are better to use on stage than condenser mics for being more sturdy to use
- They don't require external power
- They are less sensitive than condenser mics

In my performance, I will use a dynamic microphone (Shure SM58) because I will perform live on stage and they are better because they are less sensitive and more sturdy

True staccato is really short and there is lots of it in pop music. 
- Vibrato is when you change the pitch of your voice. Without it you have tightness in your vocal mechanism.

- Have to be able to play a C scale or you aren't ready for these piano skills.
- Hand independence is when your hands are doing something different from each other.
- If the melody of the song gets lost in the chords you play, no-one will know what you are playing so focus on playing the melody by itself.
- Canon form is when one hand plays something and the other copies it in the next bar.

Practising hand independence has helped me with my performance of 'Virginia Plain' as my left hand plays the bass notes while my right hand plays the melody.
Practising the scales with 'Virginia Plain' helped me to improve my hand co-ordination and be more in control of my fingers so I am less likely to make any mistakes.

After releasing a few unsuccessful solo singles and a short career as the lead guitarist in the psychedelic rock band 'John's Children', Marc Bolan formed Tyrannosaurus Rex in July 1967 and released 4 psychedelic folk albums by this name.
By 1969, Bolan moved the band away from acoustic to electric style and shortened the bands name to T. Rex in 1970.
The band released a single called 'Ride A White Swan' in their electric style and shortened name in 1970. The electric style would soon be known as Glam rock.
The band had 4 number one hits: 'Hot Love' & 'Get It On' in 1971, 'Telegram Sam' & 'Metal Guru' in 1972.
Their 1971 album 'Electric Warrior' is known as the album that started the Glam rock movement.

Tight/Loose Grip: If you grip the sticks too tight, the tip won't bounce off the top of the drums but you should make sure you grip the stick well so it won't fly out of your hand.
I hold my sticks firmly so I have less chances of dropping my sticks when performing.

Learning Methods:
When playing the bass drum, there are 2 different techniques to use when playing: Heel up & Heel down. In heel down technique, your foot completely sits on the pedal while the lower leg and ankle are tapping it compared to hell up technique where your heel is off the pedal, leaving the front of your foot on it. This makes playing the beater more easier, letting out more attack and less resonance.

Coordination: One way of developing better coordination is to use repeating patterns known as Ostinatos. This is when you get one or more of your limbs to play a repetitive rhythm while your other limbs play something else.

Fills: A fill is a brief and catchy part played during a break of a groove.

I intend to use lots of fills in the instrumental parts and ending when playing 'Ziggy Stardust' to make my drumming more interesting.
