For something to be considered alive, they need to show the the characteristics on their own, which a virus cannot do. All living things are made up of cells, but viruses do not have cells. Viruses need the help of a living cell so that it may function, they need a host cell to live and reproduce. Also, viruses doesn't grow and they also do not need food.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>

Although they do perform some of the seven characteristics of living, they cannot do it on their own. And lastly, they cannot reproduce without the help of the host cell, and living things reproduce. So all in all, they are not a living thing.</div>]]></description>
