I teach very linear (pre-writing, writing, revision), with the end-product in mind. However, my own process is very different. I often find myself writing little blurbs in a notebook, often responding to a thought I've had during the day, or a sentence that's stuck in my head, and won't really look back at this writing for some time. I don't feel like my process happens in such discrete parts. I feel like so much important thinking happens when I read, largely because so much of the writing I do is in response to reading. I take so many notes and talk about what I read with people, which is an important part of preparing me to write. I don't feel like revision is something that happens completely separately from my writing, but editing certainly feels like it does. I don't think I can write three sentences without "reworking" them multiple times. I can't move on until I feel great about what's there. I think this is different from the editing that the unskilled writers were doing in Sommers and Perl, as most of the changes that I make are about more effectively executing my intentional meaning.
