These two terms are often a bit confusing, I personally used to think they had the same meaning, but reflecting on what each word addresses I realised how different they are. I can understand "Vocabulary" as a set of words that are used in a specific context, which varies according to the environment you are in; on the other hand, I understand "Lexis" as all the words that comprise a language, in all their forms and variations, regardless of the context in which they are used. In conclusion, I can say that Lexis encompasses all the vocabulary of a language.

Annye Torres Pertuz

Maybe these could be similar, but I think that vocabulary is all words and expressions that someone knows of the language and lexis is all the words and expressions that compound the language. In other words, the term lexis refers to the complete set of words and expressions that make up a language, while vocabulary refers to the specific words and expressions that an individual knows and uses.

Yuris González

To start, I would like to say that vocabulary and lexis are related terms, but they have distinct meanings, particularly in the context of linguistics and language learning.

I believe that vocabulary refers to the set of words that a person knows and uses in a language.

Lexis is a broader term that refers to the entire stock of words and phrases in a language, including all their meanings, forms, and usages. It encompasses not just individual words, but also phrases, idioms, collocations, and fixed expressions.

Sometimes people get confused a lot, even it happened to me.

Jesus D.

Vocabulary and lexis are terms that refer to words and expressions in a language. Lexis encompasses the entire set of words, including phrases and idioms, while vocabulary refers more specifically to the words that a person knows and uses.

In my opinion, lexis and vocabulary are essential for effective communication. A rich lexis allows for more precise and nuanced expression, while a large vocabulary facilitates understanding and learning. Both are essential for language development and social interaction, making communication richer and more meaningful.

PAULA ANDREA VARGAS LEAL

From my point of view, vocabulary/lexis refers to the whole set of words, sentences and even expressions that we, as learners of a second language, must learn. All of these play a very important role in the learning process, as they will determine our success with the language and the quality in which we will be able to communicate.

Also, I believe that in order to achieve both, a lot of determination and hard work is needed, which will not show its fruits immediately, but there will be results.

MARÍA FERNANDA ANGULO
