A all-time hitter and sports better in 1989 was banned from games for life after being caught for betting on baseball games. It was reported that on average he would bet once a day for upwards of $2,000. After being caught he vowed to never bet again as a player, or bet against his own team, and ever since then as we know he's been true to his word.

The reason I chose this prompt was because it was interesting that he bet on his own team that he manages, and why he wanted to so much that he would go for a second measure after being told not to.

The Black Sox (1919) World Series

Known as the "Black Sox Scandal" this was an event that happened during the 1900s when players worked with sports gamblers for money. The way they cheated was that the 7 players in the picture all hit ".375 with a ,956 OBS" over 8 games which didn't add up. After throwing the series away for betters, a year later when the scandal goes mainstream the players were convicted and found guilty, being banned from baseball for life.

The reason I chose this event is because I think it was just so stupid especially for that time to give up a world series for gambling money, that probably would've been made back from the win. On top of that the way they cheated out was obvious and done sloppy which is why they were caught not long later.

In 1978 a point shaving scandal took place at Boston College. Jimmy Burke and Henry Hill being the perpetrators. This started when Henry ratted out on Jimmy to the feds about the scandal which brought it to a close. Afterwards Henry was arrested for drug counts, and Henry ratted on his friends to get out of that too. The police and Henry worked together for a while and even betted on games together.

I chose this because it was the start sounded interesting and it was interesting how Henry ratted everyone out and worked with the police.

A NFL quarterback, Joe Namath used his fame to capitalize on it by opening a nightclub. A bachelor named Mark Rozelle told Namath to sell his interest in the club because of his reputation, but instead he retired fully. After he cut ties with the club and left as ordered he ran into Rozelle's 11 year old daughter and she said to him “Mr. Namath, I just want you to know that everyone in the Rozelle family doesn’t hate you.”

I chose this scandal because it seemed like a short and intersesting story that I could answer about.

A NFL quarterback, Joe Schlitler acrued almost $1 million in gambling debt using his football money in his first year. He allegedly betted on 10 different sports game. He was reinstated in 1984, out of the league by 1985 and he spent the last 30 years in and out of jail his most recent offense being selling phony tickets.

The reason I chose this scandal is because I think it's just really stupid that this NFL quarterback ruined all of his hardwork, fame, and money just to do something dumb as this.
