That perches in the soul -

And sings the tune without the words -

And never stops - at all -

And sweetest - in the Gale - is heard -

And sore must be the storm -

That could abash the little Bird

That kept so many warm -

I’ve heard it in the chillest land -

And on the strangest Sea -

Yet - never - in Extremity,

It asked a crumb - of me.

Are you — Nobody — Too?

Then there’s a pair of us!

Don’t tell! They’d banish us — you know!

How dreary — to be — Somebody!

How public — like a Frog —

To tell one’s name — the livelong June —

To an admiring Bog!

I shall not live in vain ;

If I can ease one life the aching,

Or cool one pain,

Or help one fainting robin

Unto his nest again,

Success in Circuit lies

Too bright for our infirm Delight

The Truth’s superb surprise

As Lightning to the Children eased

With explanation kind

The Truth must dazzle gradually

Or every man be blind —

 As a future English teacher, I will be teaching my students about the poetry genre. I think that it is important for my students to learn about past poets and their work like Emily Dickinson, Edgar Allen Poe, etc. I want them to learn about the poets who made an impact on the way we thought about poetry. The ones who made poetry the way that it is today. Although the older well-known poets have passed on, I think it is important to incorporate their work into the classroom. I want to teach them about these well-known poets and their work so that my students can learn to appreciate the older poetry.
