* Teacher engages students by creating a list of words/images that suggest feelings and appeal to the senses. Discuss how these words have an impact on our senses while reading. Have students practice the emotions together as a class.

* Using SORA, read the story, Freedom Soup together. Teacher models how to bookmark and highlight while reading a book in SORA.  Students should use the tool to highlight words and/or bookmark pages in which the words are those that appeal to the senses.

Enhance
* Students should then share the feeling words they identified in the text.  They can do this verbally, or by typing on a collaborative google doc, depending on age and skill level.

* Teacher should lead a discussion in which students talk to one another addressing the question, "How do the words or phrases used in a book help to shape the overall meaning or tone? (Teacher monitors & reteaches as necessary) If we were to share one of our family traditions with a person what would it be?

When thinking of that tradition and telling someone about it, what feeling words would we use?
- What would the person see? smell? taste? touch? hear?  Free brainstorming think pad linked in sources section.

* Students will then highlight 5-7 of their favorite feeling words which describe a tradition in their families.  Students will put the words in google slides as an image and word gallery.  Students will use this technology tool to enhance their understanding and ability to present key information using images and words. (Teacher may want to scaffold by providing pre-selected words and images for a drag and drop activity.)  (Teacher monitors & reteaches as necessary)

Possible technology skills to practice:

 - Find image and evaluate its source
 - Insert image, resizing, flipping, cropping
 - Inserting shapes, determining which shapes are appropriate for overall meaning
 - Inserting text and determining appropriate font for readability. 

* Students can share their slides to the teacher's larger slide deck which the teacher will present to the class.
