Two days before New Year’s Eve 2016, in the early morning hours, an ambulance my newborn daughter, Hope, and me into C.S. Mott. She was dying. The local hospital didn’t know why. And she was running out of time.

We would spend the next 10 months there except one week in February when a failed discharge brought us back by helicopter. Multiple surgeries, including two on her heart, followed. In Sept 2017, we went home for good with a trach and vent in tow.

Because of Ronald McDonald House, I did not have to choose between caring for Hope all those months, and caring for her big brother who wasn’t even two yet.

My husband could come and stay on the weekends. And we could be a family at least half the time.

At no cost, RMH provided us not just real beds, but food, snacks, hot meals, laundry services, and a space that wasn’t the sterile confines of an ICU room.

5 years later, when Hope’s second sister, Daisy, arrived 8 weeks early, RMH again opened it’s doors to our family. And I was able to keep 3 year old Lily with me at the hospital while Daisy got strong enough to come home.

Hope came on the weekends with big brother, but she was in kindergarten, trach and vent free. We didn’t want her missing too much school.

Between my two girls, RMH has been our second home for more than a year. And there is absolutely no price you can put on being able to stay together as a family in the hardest moments of your life.

I don't know where to even begin to express how greatful we are to the Ronald McDonald house in Ann Arbor. My Maverick was born in December and immediately went to the NICU. He was full term but he had some complications that required immediate surgery, his 1st was at 3 days old. After a long 6 months and multiple surgeries we finally got to go home. But without the Ronald Mcdonald house and family I dont know how we would have survived. Not only do they give you a clean comfy room and feed you dinner every night +snacks all day they also treat you like family. They do so many things for families and their children..The toy closet weekly was my 9 year olds favorite part. Not only is the staff awesome we met so many amazing families there as well. I've met some people we will never forget. I could say so much more but then this would be a book. But all in all this place and its staff and residents are all just a blessing and we couldn't be more thakful for them in a time we needed support the most!

My two boys were born back in February, unfortunately we lost one in utero but our other baby was born at 29 weeks. We only stayed at U of M for 11 days before getting transferred closer to home but Ronald McDonald took care of us and gave us a temporary place to call home while he was in the NICU! Went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and that we had everything we needed while trying to navigate being first time parents to a preemie. We didn’t get to experience everything the Ann Arbor house has to offer due to having a short stay but I’m not sure how we would’ve survived without them, being three hours away from home. Every night we had dinner waiting for us when we came home from the hospital, a nice comfortable room to decompress, they treat you like family while you’re there. I’m forever grateful for the support they gave us. Thank you to all the staff and volunteers, we will never forget you and everything you did for us! ❤️

My memories of the Ronald McDonald House begin with it's groundbreaking ceremony - an event that I was a part of as a C.S. Mott patient. I am the little girl in the pink jacket and Detroit Tigers hat on the right side of the picture standing with Larry Herndon.

RHMC Ann Arbor is a godsend

Me and my family spent 6 months at the RHMC Ann Arbor. It always felt so good to have a smiling face welcoming me and my daughter after a long day at the hospital. We were there Christmas of 2023 and my family was so blessed they made sure that Christmas still felt like Christmas to my then 4 year old. I will forever love and cherish them.
