This book talks about the different ways that you should lead to become an overall better leader. It has seven chapters, each titled with a different question. These are the Kickstart question, the Awe question, the Focus question, the Foundation question, the Lazy question, the Strategic question, and the Learning question. For the purpose of this assignment, I chose the two chapters that stood out to me the most.

The Focus Question

The Focus question is used to find out what's really happening in the brains of our employees. This chapter explains the differences between, "what's the challenge?" "what's the real challenge here?" and "what's the real challenge here for you?" The book talks about how much of a difference asking, "what's the real challenge here for you?" has compared to asking just "what's the challenge?" Asking someone a question directly can make them feel like you actually care and they may even be more willing to open up to you.

The chapter in the book called The Lazy Question, refers to the question of "how can I help?" This chapter describes the Karpman Drama Triangle. This terrible triangle includes the victim, the persecutor, and the rescuer. In short, each of these people cause their own problems in the business. This is where the, "how can I help?" question comes into play. Asking "how can help?" shows the employee that you want to be a part of what they are doing, and that you want to help them. This has proven to be very beneficial in the business world.

This book was definitely a great read, and I learned so much through it. My favorite quote from the book was, "The wheel is spinning but the hamster is dead." (Page 156) This kept my attention for a few minutes. I was trying to figure out what it meant to me before reading what it meant to the author. The meaning of this quote is, don't just go through the motions of your day-to-day life. If you are listening to someone talk, actually lean in and listen, and if you are in a meeting, be engaged in what your team is talking about. This quote was so inspirational to me in both my job, and my life.
