Between the ages of 13 and 18, the parents of a child can choose to have them "unwound". That is to say that the child's organs will be transplanted to different people who need them to live. Storking, the other part of the bill, says that one may leave their newborn infant at the door of a random home and once the door of that home is opened, the child legally belongs to that family.

However, Roland dies when he is unwound. His arm is given to Connor and no part of Connor, once given the arm, lives in Connor. For Roland's soul has died.
