Normally, WHES seeks volunteer opportunities (help during Field Trips, classroom celebrations, reading buddies, etc.). Also they ask for parent volunteers to serve on the PTO and SIT.

I think during this transition, parents are still willing to help in any way they can. Even if they can help prep for activities at home and drop them off at school for the teacher or serve on a committee virtually.

I like how my child's school has shared information in multiple ways. There is a lot of communication right now and I think highlighting the most important information somehow will help parents know what information is most important at this time.

Overall, I am pleased with information received and about my child's process. I think during this time of transition, we need to figure out how to support two way communication. I actually think Teams helps because parents can submit feedback during meetings and there is documentation via chat box and/or recordings.

Active CIS rep (Ms Allen) disseminating info, active administrators' presence, active classroom teacher presence, and contact from encore/specials staff Ms. Kilby and Ms. Hill especially.
Canvas has been helpful, but we really feel that Dojo is the most comprehensive way to see and discuss how our student is progressing.

Not sure how, but volunteering virtually would be beneficial during covid. Unsure how that could look... Admins are receptive to concerns, however possibly extending feedback sessions outside of the typical school day would be more inviting for some who are unaware of the pathways to engagement. PM virtual meets are often during the time when parents are getting home from work, making dinner, helping with homework or getting students ready for bed- a possible weekend session may be helpful, or having a "living document" type format where questions are asked and answered in a town hall fashion, so even if a parent is too shy to ask- or does not think to ask- can receive the answer. As the saying goes, we only know what we know.

Overall for the district, I wished for the younger kids at least, they should have planned some sort of workbook teaching/work to help teachers and students. I think this would have helped with reinforcement of learning and practicing at home. All the screen time and trying to do work on canvas, dojo, seesaw are hard for kids that CAN'T yet type. A thought for the district.

PTO seemed to be minimally involved. A lot of the meetings start during "working" hours which doesn't allow the majority of the working parents to help out. When events start at 4, we are rushing in at the end.

Dojo has been a great way to communicate. However, the standard for awarding points seems to vary too much from teacher to teacher. Canvas is tough because every teacher does it so differently. Daily check list would be helpful. Some teachers were sending this on dojo but have said they will no longer do that when in person instruction starts.

Weekly or daily checklist are necessary because canvas is not the easiest to navigate. Assignments for other grade levels show up on to do list. And some assignments are listed but never really assigned so it makes it hard to understand what has to be done everyday without a list.

I do wish we had a workbook, or some work that isn't all on the computer. All of the kids need to practice writing and that isn't happening when everything is on a screen. Eyes get very tired from looking at the screen all morning and then all afternoon with more videos and work. The encore teachers have been amazing and keeping the students involved. I do like the individuality from each teachers canvas virtual classroom but there needs to be some things that are standard and consistent too.
