         <description><![CDATA[<div>Health-Related Activity (HRA) is one of 7 strands of learning in the Junior Cycle Physical Education Syllabus, produced by the Department of Education and Science. It is stated in this syllabus that <em>‘The general aim of physical education is to contribute to the preparation of the student for a life of autonomous wellbeing’.</em> This aim can be achieved through motivating <em>‘the student to choose a lifestyle that is active, healthy and meaningful’</em>. (Dept. Education &amp; Science, 2003, p. 2). Completing a module in HRA will inform pupils of their own fitness levels and facilitate in meeting the aforementioned aims by providing the students with the necessary tools to contribute to an active and healthy lifestyle beyond the classroom.<br>However, in order to cater for pupils with very varying fitness levels in the class, it would be appropriate to apply the Personalised System of Instruction (PSI) model to this scheme. The Personalised System of Instruction (PSI) model allows pupils to lead their own learning and is particularly useful in classes like this one, with large numbers and a wide range of ability (Luttrell &amp; Chambers, 2013).  The PSI approach acknowledges that not all students have the same interests, abilities or fitness levels and hence, its goal in this scheme is to allow the students who are regularly physically active to learn independently, so I can devote further time with certain students who need extra assistance. Hence, although each student is responsible for achieving mastery, students with higher skills are allowed to progress at faster rates while other students may take additional time to complete each activity.</div><div><br></div>]]></description>
