What is an ice core? How do ice cores help scientists learn about the post climate of Earth?

Ice cores are samples of ice sheets and they have pollen and kind of "records" of what was around at the time. You would just use fossil record placement. It helps scientists learn what was around and how things have changed. Plus ice can preserve things really well.
