I lived here for 6 months and it was the first time I had ever been that far away from home and my family. During study abroad I also visited Spain, Ireland, Greece, France, Morocco and Scotland. However, two weeks before my birthday I changed my mind and told my parents that I wanted a quinceañera.  This was very stressful for them but they were able to pull it off in our own special way! I remember we went during Spring Break and it was exciting. It was also an emotional experience for my mom. It was crazy to finally see in person all the family members, places and things that my parents had talked about growing up. I believe that this is something unique to immigrant children- hearing the stories of life in a past country. This picture shows just one of the peaceful protests that happened in Chicago.
