Have you ever had an animal bring you and another person together? That what happened In the story Shells by Cynthia Rylnant I think that animals bring people together. Because aunt Esther thought he hated it there. Michael missed his parents and did not like aunt Esther. Also they got hermit crabs and it all changed.

My first reason is that aunt Esther thought Michael hated it here. For example in the beginning she said "you hate living here". That shows how they were having problems in the beginning of the book. She also shows hate by saying "you hate it here and you hate me". That shows how they are. They were not getting along until the end of the book. That shows in conclusion aunt Esther thought Michael hated her.

Second Reason

My second reason is that Michael missed his parents and did not like aunt Esther. For example he said "he didn't want to but he hated her and did not know how to lie about it". That shows that Michael was lying and they can't trust each other. Another piece of evidence is that he said " even six months after their deaths, he still expected to see his parents sitting on the couch as he walked into Esther's living room. That is a strong piece of evidence to that michael missed his parents and thinks he may still see them

My third reason is that they got hermit crabs and it all changed. For example, Aunt Esther said "I think he needs a companion". That shows how aunt Esther is warming up to having hermit crabs and that will bring them together. She also said "won't sluggo be surprised". She said happily. That shows she is happy in the end with an anima to bring them together. That shows that animals bring people together.
