         <description><![CDATA[<div>Leonhard Euler, the 18th century Swiss mathematician and physicist is considered to be one of the greatest mathematicians of all time for the tremendous contributions he made to the field of pure mathematics. Many concepts of modern mathematics originated from the works of this eminent mathematician whose works also spanned the fields of mechanics, fluid dynamics, optics and astronomy. Euler’s interest in mathematics stemmed from his childhood when his father would teach him the subject. As luck would have it, Johann Bernoulli, Europe’s foremost mathematician of his time, was a friend of Leonhard’s father and the influence of this great mathematician on the young Leonhard was immense. Euler’s father wanted to prepare him for a career in theology and it was Bernoulli who persuaded his friend to let the boy study mathematics. Throughout his working career Euler authored several textbooks and memoirs in which he introduced many concepts, especially in the area of mathematical analysis. A prolific mathematician, his works cover several areas of the subject such as algebra, geometry, calculus, trigonometry and number theory. Two numbers are named after him: Euler's Number in calculus, e, and Euler-Mascheroni Constant, γ, also called “Euler’s constant”. He was plagued by deteriorating eyesight which rendered him almost blind, yet his productivity never suffered.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Cahit Arf was born on 11 October 1910<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cahit_Arf#cite_note-1"><sup>[1]</sup></a> in <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Selanik">Selanik</a> (<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thessaloniki">Thessaloniki</a>), which was then a part of the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ottoman_Empire">Ottoman Empire</a>. His family migrated to <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Istanbul">Istanbul</a> with the outbreak of the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Balkan_War">Balkan War</a> in 1912. The family finally settled in <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C4%B0zmir">İzmir</a> where Cahit Arf received his primary education. Upon receiving a scholarship from the Turkish Ministry of Education he continued his education in Paris and graduated from <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%89cole_Normale_Sup%C3%A9rieure">École Normale Supérieure</a>.<br><br></div><div>Returning to Turkey, he taught <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mathematics">mathematics</a> at <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galatasaray_High_School">Galatasaray High School</a>. In 1933 he joined the Mathematics Department of <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Istanbul_University">Istanbul University</a>. In 1937 he went to <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/G%C3%B6ttingen">Göttingen</a>, where he received his PhD from the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_G%C3%B6ttingen">University of Göttingen</a> and he worked with <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Helmut_Hasse">Helmut Hasse</a> and Josue Cruz de Munoz. He returned to Istanbul University and worked there until his involvement with the foundation work of<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T%C3%9CB%C4%B0TAK">Scientific and Technological Research Council (TÜBİTAK)</a> upon President <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cemal_Gursel">Cemal Gursel</a>‘s appointment in 1962. After serving as the founding director of the council in 1963, he joined the Mathematics Department of <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_College">Robert College</a> in Istanbul. Arf spent the period of 1964–1966 working at the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Institute_for_Advanced_Study">Institute for Advanced Study</a> in <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Princeton,_New_Jersey">Princeton, New Jersey</a>.<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cahit_Arf#cite_note-2"><sup>[2]</sup></a> He later visited <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_California,_Berkeley">University of California, Berkeley</a>for one year.<br><br></div><div>Upon his final return to Turkey, he joined the Mathematics Department of the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Middle_East_Technical_University">Middle East Technical University</a> and continued his studies there until his retirement in 1980. Arf received numerous awards for his contributions to mathematics, among them are: İnönü Award in 1948, Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK) Science Award in 1974, and<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Commandeur_des_Palmes_Academiques">Commandeur des Palmes Academiques</a> (France) in 1994. Arf was a member of the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Mainz_Academy&amp;action=edit&amp;redlink=1">Mainz Academy</a> and the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turkish_Academy_of_Sciences">Turkish Academy of Sciences</a>. He was the president of the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Turkish_Mathematical_Society&amp;action=edit&amp;redlink=1">Turkish Mathematical Society</a> from 1985 until 1989. Arf died on December 26, 1997 in <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bebek,_Istanbul">Bebek</a>, Istanbul, at the age of 87.          <description><![CDATA[<div>Hypatia, also known as Hypatia of Alexandria, was a famed inventor, astronomer, mathematician and philosopher from Egypt, which was a part of the eastern part of the vast Roman Empire back then. She was the only child of Theon of Alexandria, who himself was a great mathematician and philosopher, adhering to the Pagan beliefs, which got him in the bad books of Christians. Against the norms back in those days, he brought up his daughter Hypatia as a son and taught her about philosophy, science, and mathematics and helped her increase her already sharp intellect. Hypatia, walking on her father’s footsteps, taught philosophy and mathematics in the Neo-Platonist school of Alexandria and among her pupils were almost all the sections of the society, namely Pagans and Christians. As she gained widespread fame as a mathematician and a scholar, her Paganism way of teaching and living got in the eyes of Christians and she started receiving threats. Meanwhile, among all the chaos, she kept teaching and providing her father a helping hand with his researches and her popularity spread around widely. Her being a woman contributed to the hatred she earned from the supporters of Christianity and she became victim of a painful death from a Christian mob while travelling down a street due to the allegations of spreading hatred and practicing black art.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>LEONARD EULER <br></strong><br></div><div>Matematikçi ve fizikçi <strong>Leonhard Euler</strong> (1707 - 1783), İsviçre'nin Basel kentinde doğdu. 18. yüzyılın en önemli ve tüm zamanların önde gelen matematikçilerinden biri kabul edilmektedir. Gelmiş geçmiş en büyük matematik dehalarından kabul edilen <strong>Euler</strong>, basit aritmetik, sayılar teorisi ve topolojiye gibi farklı alanlarda uzun süre kabul gören birçok teorem ispatladı. <strong>Euler matematiğin neredeyse bütün alanlarında çalışmıştır; geometri, aritmetik, trigonometri, cebir ve sayı teorisi. Bunlara ek olarak uzay-zaman süreklisi mekaniği, ay teorisi ve diğer pek çok alanda da katkıda bulumuştur.</strong>  En üretken matematikçilerden biri olarak çalışmalarının bütünü 70 cildi aşmaktadır.<br><br></div><div>  Birçok yeni kavram geliştirmiş farklı alanlarda uzun süre kabul gören birçok teorem ispatlamıştır. Çalışmaları sırasında günümüz matematik terminolojisini yaratmış, fonksiyon kavramını ve fonksiyonun nasıl yazıldığını tanımlamıştır. Geometride üçgenin yüksekliklerinin kesişme noktası Euler tarafından bulunmuştur. Euler trigonometrik fonsiyonların değerlerini geometrik doğruların uzunlukları olarak ifade etmiştir. İyi bir tarihçi ve edebiyatsever olmasının yanı sıra tıp, kimya ve botanik alanlarında da çalışmalar yapmıştır. Hafızasının başarısı ve okuyarak elde ettiği sonuçları zihnine saklaması ile tanınırdı. Bir dönem Galatasaray Lisesi’nde matematik öğretmeni olarak görev yapmıştır. Daha sonra İstanbul Üniversitesi Fen Fakültesi’nde doçentlik için uğraşmış ve burada görev almıştır. Doktorasını ise Almanya’da 1938 senesinde Göttingen Üniversitesi’nde tamamlamıştır.<br><br></div><div>Matematik dalında yaptığı çalışmalar sayesinde sadece ülkemizde değil dünya çapında da tanınmış biri haline gelmiştir. Sentetik geometri sorularının cetvel veya pergel kullanarak yapılabildiğini iddia edip bu konuda çalışmalara imza atmıştır. Cisimlerinde kuadratik formlarının kategorilere ayrılmasında oluşan değişmeyenlere dair Arf değişmezi ve Arf halkaları gibi kendi adınının verildiği çalışmaları vardır. Ayrıca “Hasse-Arf Teoremi” ismi verilen teoriyi cebir bilimine katmıştır.<br> “Matematik te resim, müzik ve heykel gibi bir sanattır” sözlerini söylemiştir ve cebir biliminin sanatla ilgili bir yönü de olduğunu belirtmiştir.<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>CAHİT ARF<br>Cahit Arf ( 1910 – 1997 ) was best known as a mathematician who came up with the “Arf invariant of a quadratic form”. However, he was more than the mathematical problems that he inevitably solved. He was thought of as the greatest Turkish mathematician of the 20th century.  <br>Cahit Arf was born in 1910 in the Selanik part of the Ottoman Empire. His family eventually had to move when the Balkan War of 1912 forced them to consider Istanbul as their home. Cahit would be educated in Izmir where he would go on to receive a scholarship from the Turkish Ministry of Education.<br>Arf Cahit was a mathematical genius. He was able to study in Paris before returning to Turkey where he taught mathematics at the elite Galatasaray Lisesi. An honor few experience, Arf Cahit would remain there briefly before joining the math program at Istanbul University in 1933.<br>In 1937, Arf Cahit went to the University of Gottingen where he would be able to secure his Ph.D. He later broadened his horizons by going to the states to work diligently from 1964 until 1966 at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, New Jersey.<br>Arf Cahit spent a year at Berkeley following his research in Princeton. After he returned to Turkey, he continued to work in research. His continued dedication to mathematics would be profoundly noticed when he joined the Middle East Technical University where he remained until he reached his retirement in 1980.He died on 1997.<br>- Synthetic geometry problems can be solved by using ruler and compass.<br>-We have revealed invariants in the classification of quadratic objects.<br>-Arf Invariant, Arrem Rings named theorems took place in the literature.<br><br><br><br></div><div> <br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Cahit ARF, the world-famous mathematician who lived between 1910-1997. He found terms such as “Arf constant”, “ARF rings” and “Arf closures” which appeared in the classification of the quadratic forms of the bodies and which were called by his name and made significant contributions to mathematics and Science. Together with the German mathematician Hermut Hesse, Hesse developed the ARF theory. He completed his master's degree in Ecole Normale in France in 1932. After teaching mathematics at Galatasaray High School for a while, he worked as associate professor at Istanbul University Faculty of Science. He went to Germany to do his PhD. He graduated from Göttingen University in 1938. When he returned to Turkey, he became Professor and Professor of Ordinaryus at Istanbul University Faculty of Science and worked until 1962. Then he started teaching mathematics at Robert College. In 1964, he became the first scientific committee president of the scientific and Technical Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK).<br>He later served as a visiting lecturer at the University of California. When he wanted to live in Turkey, he returned to Turkey in 1967. Shortly after his return, he received offers from universities in Canada and the United States as a visiting faculty member. However, the phone from Middle East Technical University, who was unable to respond to these offers, said that the plane ticket was on the way and now he started working at Middle East Technical University. He retired in 1980. After retiring, he worked for the development of TUBITAK and took part in the Gebze Research Center connected to TUBITAK. He was the president of Turkish mathematics association between 1983-1989.<br>Cahit ARF won the Inonu gift (1943) and TÜBITAK Science Award (1974). When he received this award, he explained to himself that the purpose of the scientist was to understand the meaning of the word “but in capital letters”. An international symposium on algebra and numbers theory was held in Silivri between 3-7 September 1990. The first conferences on rings and geometry were held in 1984 in Istanbul. ARF presented an article on the concept of geometry in mathematics. Cahit ARF died in December 1997 due to a severe heart disease.</div>]]></description>

In addition, he has contributed to space-time continuum mechanics, moon theory, and many other fields.If Euler's work had been printed, 60 and 80 quarto volumes would have taken place. According to estimates, it takes 50 years for the entire study to be written and copied by hand for 8 hours a day. 200 of Euler. in commemoration of his birthday, the project initiated by the Swiss Academy of Sciences in 1907 and related to the collection and publication of all his works has exceeded 100 years, but still continues. Euler and Legendre have never met, although their views are quite parallel to each other.<br>He got his first maths from his father Paul Euler. He was sent to Basel University to study theology. Here Jean (I) continued his studies with Bernovilli. He became a close friend with his sons. When they were summoned to Saint-Betesburg by Katerina I, Euler went with him. Daniel Bernouilli, who returned to Switzerland in 1732, took his place. In 1735, his book "traite complex De Mecanique" was published. The issues in this work are the first work in which analysis is applied to the science of motion. In 1741, he was invited to Berlin by Frederich II and in 1744 he became the director of Mathematics at the Berlin Academy.<br>He finished his work, Theorie Des isoperimetres, which, in contrast to them, determines curves or surfaces in which some undetermined functions are larger and smaller than all other functions. Euler, in his work, developed the method of solving the problem and showed it in a general formula. In the same year, he published The Theory of Motion of planets and comets (Theroie du Mouvement des planets et des Cometes). For the magnetization Tori (theroie de l' Notifantation), he won the award of the Paris Academy of Science. In these years, the King of Prussia has solved the ballistic problems.
