If it keeps ringing, it will distract our attention. Sometimes the loud conversation of the people next to you will make you upset. The author's research shows that people get angry at a conversation that doesn't know how long. (2022,'That's so annoying!' Ebook, p.157)

The writers' research shows that the main reason for people getting bored with a sound is that we don't know when it can stop. For example, a constant ringing or quiet beeping sound can be annoying. Equally, the conversation of strangers in public places can also be irritating. The reason for irritation is neither the loudness of the conversation nor the content of the conversation. Instead, it's because people don't know when the conversation could finish.

A sound in public irritates us because we don't realize when it will cease. The longer the sound goes on, the more upset we feel. This sound may not attract your attention at first, but over time, it will annoy you. For example, if you hear someone talking on the phone in a public place, you don't notice the sound at first. But the sound doesn't stop after a long time, so you will find it very annoying.(2022, Ebook p157)

I know from this article that most people are annoyed by a sound that they don't know when it's going to end. Even if the sound is not that loud, over time you get irritated because you don't know when the sound is going to end. At this point, you want the sound to end immediately.（2022，'That’s so annoying!' E-book, p.157)

This article shows that the presence of sound can affect people in different ways. Sounds that start or stop without interruption can be distracting. Especially not knowing when a sound is going to end. It can make people more anxious and irritable. (2022, ‘That’s so annoying!’ Ebook, p. 157)

People are easily influenced by sounds, but they may find certain sounds annoying or irritating. These sounds are not necessarily high-pitched, and even sounds that normally seem quiet can be bothersome. The point of this problem is that you don't know when the sound will stop, i.e. you can't control when the sound starts or ends, so you feel unsafe, dislike the sound or get annoyed.

Some sounds annoy us mainly due to the fact that we don't know when the sound will stop. As I said earlier we hate these sounds because of their uncertainty. Constant sounds can distract people, even if the sound is far away or very slight. Like a loud phone call in public, you may not be instantly angry at first, but with the continuous voice, you will feel uncomfortable when you notice it ,maybe you simply don't want konw useless information , such as the private information of a stranger,or the voice is too loud. But my research shows that when you hear constant sounds, you are very annoy. (2018, ebook, 'That’s so annoying!', p.157)
