This dissertation has provided me with valuable experience in research design, data collection and analysis. All of these skills have strengthened my interest in pursuing a career in well-being, inactivity and health psychology research. This dissertation has also given me key insights into the real-world concerns that affect health as a whole.

Moving forward, I plan to use this project as a stepping stone for possible post-graduate opportunities in a Master's Degree in this area, as well as others. I have also gained skills such as statistical analysis and cortisol analysis, which will allow me to carry those skills in professional sectors and academic research.

Finally, carrying out this dissertation journey, it has sparked an interest in how data-driven approaches can be used to help shape healthier societies and interventions to help overall well-being. In the long term, I aim to contribute my knowledge from this project to helping improve communities and their well-being, especially through information on sedentary behaviour and natural spaces.

Barnes et al., (2019) reviewed 40 studies with 41 distinct exposures in nature that elicited positive mental health benefits. This review helped me design my study and helped me realise the importance and need for further research into more detailed descriptions on the type, size and diversity of green spaces and how each may affect psychological well-being separately.

Cleary et al., (2019), provided key background research into the positive effects of green spaces on psychological well-being, after using and analysing data from the HABITAT study between 2009 and 2011.

Ducker et al., (2020), study on cortisol gave me a clear insight into how detailed the analysis of cortisol levels are and its accuracy. This study provided evidence of validity in using saliva samples and cortisol levels as a physiological biomarker of stress.

Ayllon, Lopez and Cornejo, (2019) carried out a study on the relationship between physical activity, sedentary behaviour and mental health in young people. The results proved that excessive screen time while being sedentary leads to poorer mental health. This motivated me to delve into the effect of sedentary time in green spaces and to see if the green space use mitigates those effects.
