One BIG difference is asynchronous vs synchronous learning. E-Learning (as our board offers it) is meant to be expicitly asynchronous.

One similarity would be that it's the same source material (the curriculum) that is being delivered.

SIMILARITY: both aim to deliver the curriculum providing options for differentiated learning.
DIFFERENCE: e-learning doesn't provide face to face connections or the building of friendships and peer interaction on a more intimate level.

Similarity: Students and teachers can share videos, slideshows, and Word/PDF files in the traditional classroom and/or through an eLearning platform.

Difference: eLearning allows students to work from anywhere. Students have the flexibility to work from home (or another location) at times that are suitable/convenient for them (for the most part).

1 Difference: Getting to know the student. In a physical setting I get to see a lot more of the students personal behavior which helps me in leading towards learning what style of learner I think they are. When they are behind a screen (often with their camera off) it becomes more difficult to learn the students behavior.

1 Similarity: One on One communication. In class this often happens at a tool or wherever the student is working and requires assistance. Online I am able to provide the same opportunity for student when they ask for the assistance. I feel students are more true to what their question is when they have some independence from the rest of class and both in-class and eLearning allow for this.

Similarity: purpose of both traditional classroom and e- learning is to deliver lesson and information to the learner. Moreover , feedback is demanding and required in both methods for the evaluation purposes.

Difference: E- learning provides liberty of time and students can facilitate themselves by choosing a topic of their own interest at a particular time . On the other side , traditional classrooms are more scheduled and having less flexibility. In addition to this, e- learning constitutes visual presentation of audio and video files which makes it more engaging and interesting than traditional class room.
