This story shows many, many themes throughout the book but one that closes towards the end is that nothing worth having comes easy. This book shows the story and struggle of having a successful loving relationship. It shows the trueness to relationships and that it’s not always good all the time. They not only have been married for thirty years but they have a family, a child, and they still have problems within their marriage. His wife falls out of love with him and Wilson was unable to tell her how he really felt and this story shows you that you must work for want you want, nothing is just given to you, especially not love. Another theme is that if something is real, it will never be over. Even though his wife saw an end to their marriage he did not. He saw love and life and growing old together, because the love was real to him and never went away. One of the questions I would ask is do you agree with Wilsons effort to rekindle their marriage, or do you think his wife’s feelings should’ve been taken into more account? Does true love never die? Also, how far is too far when trying to fix a problem? There are some dramatic circumstances in Wilsons attempt to regain his wife’s love.
