As a consultant, Mr. Steffen has recently advised author Steve Estes on Ask and Tell: Gay and Lesbian Veterans Speak Out. The book is based on over 50 interviews from LGBTQ veterans from World War II forward. Additionally, Mr. Steffen consulted with author Greg Marchand on an informal textbook, Single Port Advanced Laparoscopic Hysterectomy. Another of his clients is young adult science fiction writer Christine DeYoung.

His career in writing is backed up by his experience minoring in English at Sonoma State University in Rohnert Park, California. His major field of study was political science, and he graduated cum laude in 2007.

When he is not engaged in literary pursuits or teaching, Mr. Steffen spends time with his wife and children. He also an avid reader, particularly of children’s books, and enjoys a good movie.</description>
