One of the most important ideals of the DOI is that the government gets it power from the "consent of the governed". We exercise this consent through voting, and this article discusses how Wisconsin voter ID laws may limit turnout at the polls and cut into the "consent of the governed." The voter ID law impacts people of color iin large numbers, which may challenge thier political voice in the upcoming elections.

The Social Contract

As a teacher, the entire DOI resonates with me - but I think the idea of the soical contract is a perfect connection to what I try to do in and out of class. I need to do my best to make a successful educational experience for my students, and in turn, they need to follow directions, pay attention in class, and be prepared for learning. It's our own social contract - I think John Locke wuld like the comparison.
