First spots the initiative in the neighbourhood on a screen. Then gets interested by a neighbour (another single parent) which tells her about the exchange of services exemplified through the foot bus idea which attracts Sarah. Next week when Sarah is out with her kids in the green spaces she sees the caravan and approaches it, registers and fills in what services she can provide and thinks about which she would enjoy. Gets a full presentation by one of the volunteers/ambassadors.

Needs:

2. Baby-sitting, going out with kids, foot bus.

Benefits: Sarah connects with other parents in the area, they help each other out with picking up their kids from school, sharing food when having left overs, baby-sit when needed. She also helps out taking care of other neighbours pets cause her children loves animals which makes the whole family happier. In general, her stress levels are reduced and she feels happier/calmer.

It can be Gertrude: she is an 85 year old widow. Happily retired. And alone. Gertrude wants to bake a cake. She is really good at this and she wants to share. Why is this a problem? Her granddaughter lives in Frankfurt, so she can't help shop for groceries or eat the cake. Zjelko, a neighbour, could help Gertrude. But he is male, he is young and he is a foreigner. This scares Gertrude.

We want to connect Gertrude and Zejko. And Sarah and Gheroghe and Can. Each of them needs something and can offer something. They can fix bikes, walk dogs, cook for others. And through helping each other they may get to know one another. And through knowing each other the trust, friendships and community is built.

There are existing ways of asking for help and getting in touch with others. But Gertrude does not use a smartphone. Zjelko does not go to the community centre. And Can's friends would ridicule him if he goes to help an unknown old grandma.

So, they don't go to the community centre for various reasons. But: Gertrude visits the church. Zjelko goes to the park to relax. Sarah goes to the playground with her kids. Places they identify with. The "co-ravan" can come to all of these places. It is a mobile meeting place. It is a magnet for the community. Attracting what seems to be opposites to each other. Where they can share skills, goods and food. And of course where they can find all the information regarding the community. In contrast to a community center, the co-ravan actually shows up in places in the community where the inhabitants hang out. Among the greenery.

Also, they don't want to install another app? Maybe they are not even existing online yet? Or are they just tired of digitalisation? The "co-mmunicator" isn't another app. It uses already existing communication channels. Both analogue and digital ones. It's moderated, translated, and beyond all: accessible.

Here Gertrude finds someones to share her cake with. Zjelko gets his bike repaired. Sarah offers to walk your dog.
Arranged by the co-mmunicator happening in the co-ravan. In a safe environment, in everyone's mother tongue and assisted by volunteers.

Imagine this: Gertrude makes a call from her landline-phone to the co-mmunicator. She asks for help with grocery shopping. Her message translates to Croatian and Zjelko receives it through his WhatsApp. Zjelko picks up her groceries and delivers them to Gertrude. She will put up a note in the co-ravan. Inviting to tea-time. And she, Zjelko, Sarah, Gheorge and Can enjoy the cake all together.

Why would Zjelko want to help Gertrude? Since the service will be added to his profile, he won't be an unknown person in the community. And next time he needs a drill, Gheorge won't hesitate to borrow it to him.

But, the phone is not answered by itself, the note is not posted by itself and the co-varan doesn't drive itself. But our volunteers and ambassadors will make this happen.
They know the inhabitants' habits, needs and ways of communicating. They will spread information about the services at pubs, gyms, schools.

The initiative will be managed by the local people and adjusted to their needs. This will make it sustainable and rooted in the community.

Sounds like hard work? Not exactly, they would buy food, borrow tools and cook anyways. But with us, they will have fun doing it together!
