The phrase that best captures the attitude circulating right now is "black is beautiful." Hundreds of thousands of African American's are partaking in the move North. They're uprooting themselves from their southern homes and are moving to big cities in the North. At this rate, around 40% of the African American population should be living in cities by the end of the decade. A new Association pro the advancement of colored people (NAACP) urged African Americans to protest racial violence. This new amendments bans the manufacture, sale, and transportation of alcoholic beverages. People who aren't happy with Prohibition are going drinking underground in hidden saloons and nightclubs also known as speakeasies. They acquired that nickname because when inside you have to speak "easy" or quietly. People are becoming more and more tired of this law which also means more and more people are going against it. People have been starting to buy alcohol from bootleggers. A bootlegger is someone is a name for someone who smuggles liquor in the legs of boots. Prohibition was intentionally set up to decrease crime rates and bad behavior, but recently we've discovered that Prohibition has caused organized crime in nearly every major city.

There are more paved roads continuing to be made that is changing the landscape of America. One new road built so far is Route 66, which provides a route for people going west to get from Chicago to California. The development of the automobile brought a whole new way of mass production to the industries. With Ford's new way of producing cars, things are being made much faster. People aren't relying on trains as much anymore either. Automobiles aren't the only form of transportation that we see is blossoming right now. Airplanes used to just carry our mail ,but with new advancements it is now another form of transportation. Planes are also beginning to carry radios and navigational instruments. Buying goods on credit is having an effect on the economy. The standard of living in America soared up and is changing the way we live. Credit is allowing people to spend all their extra money and then some. More and more homes are getting electric irons, refrigerators, cooking ranges, and toasters.With all these new goods coming into the market, advertising is becoming a tricky thing. Advertisers aren't informing us of the products or prices of them, they've been using psychological research to find people's desire of youth, beauty, health, and wealth. While productivity is continuing to increase, business are expanding. The iron and railroad industries aren't very prosperous. The installment plan is leading to people buying a lot more than they need because they have this idea of "endless money." If they keep buying and buying, that means business have to keep producing and producing. More people are moving to cities to be around all of these new productions. This new tax is protecting our businesses, especially the chemical and metal industries, from foreign competition. This is unfortunately making it impossible for Britain and France to sell any of their goods here to repay their debt. They're looking to Germany to help, but Germany is facing terrible inflation so they can't give them payments. French armies are barging into Germany to collect pay that Germany can't give them. Everyone is wanting to avoid war at all costs right now due to the tragedies of WW1, so American banker Charles G. Dawes was sent to help them negotiate. They finally came to an agreement and American investors are going to loan Germany $2.5 billion to pay back Britain and France. This is known as the Dawes Plan. Harding hasn't made the best decisions  with his administration. His corrupt friends are using their offices to illegally sell government and hospital supplies, and get wealthy through graft. The most recent example of this uprising corruption is the Teapot Dome Scandal. Harding and our government had set aside oil filled public lands at Teapot Dome for the use of the U.S Navy. Secretary of the Interior, Albert B. Fall, got the oil reserves transferred from the navy to the Interior Department.
