Slaves were put under great sufferings that were unbearable.<br><br>Background Information: The author of the <em>Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass,</em> Frederick Douglass goes through many obstacles as a slave. He is separated from his mother and has to learn to read and write on his own, in order to gain freedom. While in the years of being a slave he realizes slavery is terrible. Slaves suffered many harsh conditions: getting whipped, or being punished even to the point of death.</div><div><br>Thesis Statement: Along with the use of figurative language Douglass uses his story to reveal the effects of slavery on slaves and slave owners, which supports his position to end slavery.</div>]]></description>
