(Barack Obama's early life) Barack Hussein Obama the II was born on August 4, 1961, in Honolulu, Hawaii. His mother, Ann Dunham, was an American. She was born in Kansas, and she worked as an anthropologist studying humans from the past and present. While Barack Obama ‘s father worked as an economist in Kenya. His mother and father met at the University of Hawaii. They divorced when Barack was two years old. Which led to Barack living most of his childhood in Hawaii with his grandparents who mostly raised him. but for a short amount of time, he also lived in Jakarta, Indonesia, after Barack’s mother remarried a man named Lolo Soetoro in Indonesia. Brack’s complicated upbringing in different cultures made him value different ways of life and have an understanding of the world that not many people have. Once he was a teenager he went back to Hawaii and lived with his grandparents again. Obama went to a school called Punahou, it was a prestigious private school in Honolulu, where he advanced academically and also athletically. After high school he moved to Los Angeles and decided to go to Occidental College for two years before changing his mind and switching colleges to Columbia University in New York City, where he majored in political science he graduated in 1983.
