  This poem urges us to think for ourselves, and take reflection into our own hands. Nowadays, there are many external factors that affect our thinking, like children's books or media outlets. Misinformation is rampant in today's society, and people tend to take things at face value. TOK is a way of navigating through this web of knowledge. It means we need to question the words and sources of others around us, and not just take them as is. The other lines can also be interpreted as saying that we should question the tenets of knowledge that people of old that are now dead and only live on in their books established, because they are long gone already.

The third stanza states that we need to question what is around us and filter it with questions and analysis so that we can find our own meaning and knowledge.

Given this, we question to what extent do we stop asking questions? Do we reach a point where all that is left can no longer be questioned and refuted?

The nature of TOK is inquisitive. TOK consists of asking questions, reviewing what we believed to be facts, and testing the information and lessons we have been given by the people around us and before us.
