It is a great way to get a first-hand account into a job setting and would be good for Career Awareness, particularly for individuals with disabilities that could be more moderate-severe. This type of job could be good for people with disabilities to explore and gain insight into a setting that has employees with disabilities and what it could be like to work in this setting.

What Can YOU Do? video is a great video on Career Awareness as it shows the world of work for people with disabilities and resources available in relationship to disabilities and the workforce. It could also fall into Career Exploration, but I think it is strong for Career Awareness as it highlights the potential for a variety of jobs for individuals with disabilities and how organizations give job opportunities for their employees with disabilities. Could be good for families that do not realize the potential and options for their child in relationship to high school work experiences and post-secondary outcomes.

For this reason, the first video is meant for elementary age students. In our presentation this week, Dr. Simonsen stated that career awareness can often times state at the elementary age to have students understand that there are multitudes of career options available.

This was mentioned in Module 2 presentation, and it is a site that teachers can use to take students through the career development process. This video in particular would fall under the category of Career Preparation because it shows specific skills needed to carry out a specific task within this job setting. On the site, you can look up virtual job tours and hone in on specific tasks within job settings.

This is called Get the Job...Keep the Job! It is made by students and demonstrates what skills are necessary for getting a job and keeping a job. It also shows how to ask for accommodations when applying or receiving a job. Would be great for Career Preparation for students with disabilities. This video could be a pre-cursor to going on a job site for hands-on experiences, paid work experiences, apprenticeships, etc. It would be good for students to practice soft skills within the classroom before going on site to a job. As mentioned in the Module 2 presentation, it is important for students to practice within their jobs and have supervision to learn how to adequately access assistive technology, practice soft skills, manage themselves within a job, etc. In the video, the student who uses a wheelchair speaks on the accommodations that would be needed to do his job. This would be a great video to use for students who needed to advocate for their accommodations and have practice doing so before going onto the job site, hopefully generalizing those skills as they worked on a job site.

This is a panel taking place at Berkeley where multiple people with disabilities and different companies speak about the opportunities to be aware of. This panel is focused on STEM careers, which is a large topic of conversation in California schools. It is truly an inclusive panel that discusses disabilities in general and the opportunities that any student can have.
