She helped the Corps dig roots and find other types of food and showed the men how to make things such as leather clothes and moccasins. Sacagawea helped the corps of discovery in many ways. Sacagawea and her newborn baby served as a peace symbol for other tribes. She even was able to get the men horses, which were very important later on in the journey, then men were dying of starvation so they had to eat the horses. Without Sacagawea the Corps of discovery may have not reached the pacific ocean.

Seaman was a skilled hunter. He helped the men to get food while on the journey. Along with this he also was good at detecting intruders. He was a very skilled watchdog. In ways he protected over the men. He helped watch out for anyone who might try to ambush or attack the men.

The tobacco could be used to trade with the Indians. If the men were lacking food or resources they could trade the Indians tobacco for whatever they needed. This must of been a good way to require the needed resources.

Bison had many uses. The Indians used them for food, tools, and many other things. Some tribes depended on the bison to live. They were very important animals. I believe the reason they were so important is because they were such versatile animals. Unlike some other animals discovered on the trip the bison had many uses, so the men were most likely able to use all the parts of the bison.

They lived in two different villages,Matootonha and Rooptahee. The Corps of discovery encounter the Mandan tribe in the fall of 1804. During the winter the explorers stay across the river. The Mandan people lived in lodges, up to ten people lived in these lodges. The relationship between the Mandans and the Corps were friendly throughout the duration of the expedition’s stay. The Mandans even supplied the Americans with food throughout the winter. When food became scarce, members of the Corps accompanied the Mandans on a buffalo hunt.
