Michal Podchlebnik, a Jewish leatherworker, has testified the event of Kristalnacht that occurred on June 9th, 1945 in Kolo, Germany. Michal, having no political standing, experienced Jews being dragged out of their flats by the S.S. As families were being deported, Jews, including Michal, were thrown onto a truck and were driven to Chelmno, a ghetto. Told they would be sent to the forest to shower with clean clothes to start work, the Nazis then gassed the Jews inside the truck, killing all inside the space. This gassing strategy continued throughout Chelmno as the Jews took occupation in the camp, decreasing the Jewish population day by day. Hitler and the Nazis were pleased with the killing of the Jews, for they believed the "disease" would soon stop spreading. As the Jews lived their lives in more ghettos and concentration camps, more citizens were taken into captivity and murdered brutally, transforming the lives of the remaining Jewish community, forever.
