When Ford designed the Model A and it's brother Model T, transformed the United States, as it became one of the backbones of the the US economy in the 1920's. They also altered the countries landscape and society based on roads like route 66. Route 66 allowed for a new route for people travelling to west Chicago to California and vice versa. Although it made an easier path for traveling the +2,000 journey, a lot of people settled on the sides of the route and in little villages near or along the route. As the route weaved it's way from place to place, each village or city had different architecture depending on how the landscape and who moved there. The route/new roads and the automobile enabled many new offers to what a business could do. Now, it made even the isolated rural family to be able to go out and shop and find entertainment. It also gave young people and women more independence for work and traveling on their own. This allowed workers to live miles away from home, leading to the urban sprawl: cities expanding in all directions. With this grow in travelling becoming a necessity, the automobile industry became the backbone of the US economy, like said before. Since the automobile industry was growing, this lead people to the involvement of the oil industry in California and Texas. The automobile industry wasn't the only thing taking off, but the airplane industry as well! this industry was first a mail carrying service and slowly began to carry people, then later into transatlantic transportation. Harding was president from 1921-1923. The Teapot Dome Scandal was a political scandal that took place in the early 1920s. At this time, the government had set aside lands in Elk Hills, California and Teapot Dome, Wyoming due to them being rich with oil. This oil was set aside with the intention of it being used by the U.S. Navy. A member of Harding’s cabinet, Albert B. Fall (Secretary of Interior), had transferred the oil reserves from the U.S. Navy to the Department of Interior. In addition to this, the lands of Teapot Dome and Elk Hills had been secretly leased to two private oil companies, one of them being Henry Sinclair’s Mammoth Oil Company. Though denying the situation, suspicions arose from the public when Albert B. Fall received more than $400,000 in “loans, bonds, and cash” (obviously from the oil business). This situation is a significant example of political corruption due to it being the first time an individual in governmental position had been convicted of a felony. The outrage from public due to situation caused an increased amount of stress on Harding, eventually affecting his health. Some of these changes that women took in was cutting hair to a short bob, freeing themselves from the hassle of long hair that has been in-style since the beginning of time. Women that were considered Flappers, dyed their hair jet black and started to dress more "scandalous" with various new styles of clothes, as well as starting to dress with more masculine tastes. With this, women became more assertive so they could try to become on a more equal playing field as men. This caused an outbreak of African American culture that eventually reached the white middle class. For example, jazz, a popular African American music style gained massive popularity and eventually caused this time periods, the 20s, to be known as “The Jazz Age”. Artists like Louis Armstrong, Bessie Smith, and many other African American musicians forever influenced the history of African American empowerment and contribution to the U.S. Though music was a significant part of this cultural outbreak, African American poets/writers and artists also had an effect on society. Though the 1920s, African Americans were able to recognize their value and embrace cultural throughout years of repression and persecution. Through the performing arts, African Americans were able to express themselves (writing, music, art, etc). A lot of  the promotion was to the Flapper and new life style, but the flapper was seen as a young, rebellious phase and not seen as reality. But, as business began to grow, they needed more clerical workers for record keeping, so women started to take up that form of work. The Dawes Plan was created in attempt to avoid another war when Germany was unable to pay their war debts. Charles G. This was to convince the general public to do certain things, like through certain phrases like, "say it with flowers" as, that increases the floral business to x2 of what it was before.As these brilliant ads were appearing, businessmen met with others, and while there, the group of businessmen sang, donated to charity or charities,and boosted the businessman's moral. The business weren't the only ones gaining at this point, the households were as well. The development of an alternating electrical current that could distribute for long distances, no longer being restricted to cities and now being able to go to even rural houses for power.
