Taking Holland's Career Test #1

While taking this test I felt a bit confused just because I was expecting the questions to flow into each other, but they were mostly random. Regardless, I still enjoyed it because I answered questions that I've never seen, or even thought through to even ask myself. Gathering from my results I would like to agree and confirm that I am a really social person. I enjoy getting to know more about others, conversating with others, and even becoming friends for that matter!

Test two format was a little different than test one. It was more of a check and go type of test. The questions differed from one another, but still I they flowed through each other. As I went through and checked boxes off that I find myself to align with, new ideas came to mind. For the boxes I didn't check off, I thought maybe I could try these new things and get myself into a new hobby maybe? Overall, I really loved taking this test to not only embrace what type of person I am, but also to learn more about the person I can become.

The most important piece of information I learned from Chapters 13 and 14 that will help me“live my life to the fullest” when I reach late life?

From chapters 13 & 14 I learned a lot and related a lot to my grandparents, but the two things I would take away from each chapter, first coming from chapter 13 is memory. Remembering memories, creating them, or even forgetting about them can all be so scary. The fear of forgetting creeps up on me all the time, but from chapter 13.2 "Cognitive and Emotional Development" on page 372, different types of memory were discussed. Procedural, Semantic, and Episodic. A table was presented with different types of examples of these three types of memories, and I feel like I would eventually line up with episodic memory just because of how I am now. When I reach my late years I'm gonna try my best to forget the fear of forgetting, and just keep on creating more and more memories as the time goes on. From chapter 14.1 "Tracing Physical Ageing" page 400, "Hispanic Americans outlive White Americans by almost three years (Arias & Xu, 2019)." When I read through this I found myself searching up disease or sickness that can come from ethnicity, or how I live my everyday life and really giving it more thought. Taking care of yourself is crucial step in ife to keep going and functioning this is why physical movement and clean diets will be more enforced so I can live my life to the fullest in my older years.

While I took this test I thought a lot to myself. When the question of how long I sit on the couch came or how much junk food I eat in a week popped up I almost felt like I was being exposed by cameras in my house watching me. I often find myself guilty of the fact of being a couch potato and just ignoring all my problems because that is much easier to do. Overall, ignoring my problems rather than tackling them is something I need to work on to keep my stress levels down, and I wish to incorporate more physical activity into my lifestyle. But, one of the things helping me stay younger is my sleep schedule which I can proudly say that is one of my very top priorities and I recognize it a lot.

I was quite surprised with my results, I thought 75 would be reaching for me. I never realized how life changing improving your everyday routine can be. I can say that if I keep going ahead with the changes I have planned maybe I'll live till 100! Taking this test has really opened my eyes on where I should be focusing with my everyday life and which parts need to be worked on.

The ideal Stage

I think midlife might have to be the most important stage in life. I say this because you've already went through your younger years and now you have experience and memories, but that also set you up to know more about what can come for you. At this age because of where you're at you can start planning out your elderly years in much comfort with knowing what you already know. In chapter 12 where midlife is discussed, on page 349, 12.4 "Emotional Development" this was stated, "But emotional growth doesn't just stop after we assume adult roles. People grow more emotionally hardy well into their older years (Specht, Bleidorn, and others, 2014)." Which brings me to say that a lot of our decisions can be severely impacted by our emotional state which is why when you keep growing and maturing this can be such a useful tool for you to weaponize as you go on in life with what you already know.

This was a lovely class I really can say that I enjoyed it to the most of my abilities. Due dates were reasonable, workload was practical, and the way the information was taught to us was retainable. Overall, I am sad to part ways with this class and if I could retake it I would! Thank you for such an amazing semester!
