An Eastman Kodak engineer Steve Sasson influenced the development of the first digital camera. In 1975 Sasson invented the first camera to display photos on screen. The camera was the size of a breadbox and weighed almost four kilograms. It captured black-and-white imaged on a digital cassette tape and took 23 seconds to capture a single image.

William Henry Fox Talbot was credited as the British inventor of photography, scientist and inventor. He invented the Calotype which is also sometimes called the "Talbotype". In this technique, a sheet of paper coated with silver chloride was exposed to light in a camera obscura and those areas hit by light became dark in tone, yielding a negative image. The revolutionary aspect of the process lay in Talbot’s discovery of a chemical (gallic acid) that could be used to “develop” the image on the paper. The developing process permitted much shorter exposure times in the camera, down from one hour to one minute. These 'negatives' could be used to make multiple prints and this process revolutionised image making. The calotype process produced a translucent original negative image from which multiple positives could be made by simple contact printing. The following image type is a cyanotype which was created by Anna Atkins in 1843. A cyanotype is an image which is created with potassium ferricyanide (cyanide) and works by placing an object on a sheet of paper with the ferricyanide on it and placing it in the sun. The ferricyanide and sun reacts together and creates an image of what was placed on the paper. The image produced by Anna is pictures/cyanotypes of British Alage.

Edwin Herbert Land was an innovative American inventor and physicist responsible for revolutionising traditional photography.

Land's instant photography system allowed photos to be produced in the duration of 60 seconds. What's the difference between a DSLR (like the Canon EOS 1200D we use at school) and a Mirrorless Digital Camera? Write a paragraph and post photos of both type of camera here.

DSLR stands for Digital Single Lens Reflex, which works by the light hitting a mirror angled at 45 degrees. The light goes into the optical viewfinder, allowing you to see exactly what the lens is looking at. However the mirroless camera has no mirror. The light passes through the lens and straight onto the sensor to be processed. It’s then displayed either on the monitor on the back of the camera, or in the electronic viewfinder (EVF). A key advantage for the mirrorless camera is since they don’t need that big clunky mirror setup, they can be smaller and lighter than their equivalent DSLR counterparts. They also have super-quick focusing speeds.
