Plastic is almost in every man-made material. It can indeed be useful but because it is mass produced humans abuse the fact that it's difficult to run out of plastic. Plastic is thrown everywhere and there is approximately 400 Million tonnes of plastic waste per year. Plastic is both thrown on water and land and only sometimes burned. Marine wildlife is harmed in the process, their habitats filled with waste, intoxicating them. Soil can eat organic matter and it can prove to be useful to earth, fattening the soil, making it rich and capable of producing life. however inorganic matter like plastic can be extremely difficult for soil to digest. It can take even years or decades for it to fully disappear which makes the earth vulnerable to damage while plastic is in the soil. And in the cases of burning the plastic, if you think that this method would be the best, burning plastic produces chemicals in the air, specifically black carbon (soot) that contributes to air-pollution and climate change. Wood is also a good source for fuel, manufacturing and construction materials. Because wood can be used for many different things, sometimes, humans cut trees without permit from the government making the damage to the area unlimited. There are a lot of drawbacks to deforestation. Animals lose habitat, soil erosion will take place, flooding, but most importantly the increase of greenhouse gasses in the atmosphere.
