Right away, she set them up with accountability buddies, taught them about the impact when members of a group fail, and started a group chat for fun sharing and celebrations. Her advisory students have now been coming to school regularly and are ready to move toward improving their grades! In total youhave spent 150 days (maybe!) in an actual school building, in front of kids. You were met with a lot of challenges that pushed you to grow personally and professionally. However, each day you have shown up to support students. Each day, you have worked hard to challenge your students while meeting them where they are. Each day you have held students to high expectations while giving grace. Your commitment to making an impact at Steel City resulted in 80% of the first graders meeting or exceeding the school goals. Furthermore, it has allowed you to create parent teacher relationships that led to 100% parental engagement and an 80%+ attendance rating. It was a super proud coach moment to watch you take the learning from the last two years and use it to manage a co-teacher toward your school and personal vision. Brenna is a willing collaborator; she offers her support to her school colleagues, fellow corps members, students and families, and more. Recently, Brenna led the creation and execution of her school Art in Motion’s first-ever student awards night. Ms. Rivera has been navigating being back in person and supporting her students with diverse learning needs. Ms. Rivera has not compromised her values while navigating her work with co-teachers and other school-level stakeholders. This was recently evident when she was concerned about a student who wasn’t showing up virtually or in person. She knew in her gut she needed to potentially go beyond the traditional ways of supporting this student, and made a plan to have hard conversations with the school social worker and other adults who support this student.
