When I think about classroom management and the importance of it, it is obvious that classroom management can determine the success of a teacher. Ultimately, my philosophy of classroom management relies on positive reinforcement and non-judgmental guidance. I believe the classroom is a place that all students should feel safe and comfortable. Consequently, those feelings come from not only a student's interaction with other students but also the teacher's tone and attitudes towards the students.

Classroom management is the essential key to a successful classroom. It's so many things that all work together to accomplish the ultimate goal of learning. Classroom management is clear expectations between the students and the teacher. If you have clear expectations, there's no excuse for any big mishaps. Of course, little mishaps happen and how the teacher deals with that is also apart of classroom management. A teacher should be someone that you trust and want in your corner and I want my students to feel like they can come to me and trust me. Trust comes with respect and those are two of the biggest things you need.

Classroom management is one of the few things that can completely make or break the classroom. My philosophy is that there needs to be give and take from both the students and teachers in order to make a collaborative classroom. The students need to be willing to participate and respect the ultimate authority (the teacher). But the teacher always needs to be listening to their students and working around what they need. Discipline is a hard topic but I think that a teacher needs to create a space that students feel comfortable in while also not letting students get out of control. Ultimately the need to be an authority over a friend. The students and teacher need to be a team in the classroom. This really can stem from making the expectations together and helping one another to decorate the room so that everyone is feeling comfortable in the space.
SE

I believe that classroom management is one of the most important aspects of teaching, but it is also one of the hardest if not done properly. In my opinion, class rules and the way that the class functions should be developed both by the teacher and the students. There has to be mutual agreement between both parties, although the teacher should always have the final saying. The classroom that has the best behavior management is the one in which children feel comfortable, safe, and productive. If the child feels like they can ask a question, be themselves, and that they feel engaged they will have no reason to act out or misbehave. Clear expectations and rules should be set from the very beginning, but at the end, the best class is the one in which there is mutual trust and confidence among the students and teachers, and where the students know that they are learning while having fun.
MH

Classroom management is what makes a classroom a great and fun workplace. Without classroom management students might not listen to do what is needed to be done for them to learn. Even fun activities might not turn out to work due to lack of classroom management. Without classroom management it might push a teacher towards survival in the classroom! Over the span of my teaching I'm might understand just how important classroom management is. I might be able to say this now but when I'm teaching my first group of students, i might make mistakes and really understand how important classroom management is.

Classroom management is what keeps the classroom to be the fun and safe environment we all want it to be. My philosophy on classroom management is to stay positive. Especially with the younger kids, being positive when handling management situations will give a better end result from your students when you need them to cooperate with you. Of course I believe my philosophy will alter sightly over the years of teaching but I do still believe that if you want the kids to follow in your footsteps, then you must set a good example.

HG

I don't think a classroom can function properly without classroom management. Classroom management should be established on the very first day of class. This means setting expectations for not only the students but also the teacher, establishing rules, and what each student should expect/ wants to learn from the class. I had one of my favorite teachers here at KU tell me that you have to start out hard on the first day. Its a lot easier to get softer but almost impossible to get harder. I think that this philosophy will definitely evolve after every year that I gain experience and knowledge about the classroom. This philosophy may also evolve depending on what age group I have at a specific time.
LR

Classroom management is one of the most vital skills to maintain in the field of education. It involves the understanding of what is expected of both parties of the classroom. The teacher serves as the guiding source where the students put forth their willingness to learn. Additionally, these notions should be established early on in order to be successful from the very beginning. In terms of my career I hope to see more and more educators master this philosophy. I also hope to see it become a more established skill, something that teachers are trained on immediately when entering the work force.

-JS
