http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1554.Oedipus_Rex

It is evident that Oedipus Rex is one of the most fascinating works I have indulged in since my existence. As I was searching for different reviews, I cam across one that stood out to me. The link above leads to the review I am responding too. The reviewer's name is Hend and this author published their review July 27, 2015.

Hend's review summarizes the story while showing his view on the situation presented in Oedipus Rex. From my understanding, Hend concept of the story is that Oedipus is a "good person who seeks the truth no matter how devastating" (Hend 10). I disagree with Hend on this point. Yes, it is true that Oedipus is that, but his character does not just cease there. My perspective is that Oedipus is a good person who seeks the truth UNTIL the truth is something he can not handle. Oedipus acts as if he is a strong leader, and the people of Thebes portrays him as that, but underneath the fake hard shell, he is just as cowardly as the next person. The play states that Oedipus pierced his eyes because he "could not bear to see the world now that he knew the truth" (Oedipus The King, lines 1311-1684). Instead of dealing with the truth immediately, he decides to harm himself to the point were he will be blind the rest of his life.
