This is significant because it brings the people of Jalco together, because the houses are build so close. This is a unique trait of Jalco, because nothing you do in the town is private or ignored. Because it's a small town, their actions are amplified. Ernesto even mentions, "Arriving in Jalco was like stepping on a stage. The Arroyo respresents life in Jalco, because without it they wouldn't receive the resources they need. The Jalcocotán lifestyle is very similar to the Indian lifestyle. They rely on a water resource for their everyday needs. Galarza says, "The arroyo was as much a part of the pueblo as the street." This street is significant, because not only is it useful, and provides a safer way for transportation, but it shows the simplicity of the town. Galarza says, "The one and only street in Jalcocotán was hardly more than an open stretch of a mule trail that disappeared into the forest north and south of the pueblo." The street is the culture of their town, where neighboors greet each other after work or school.
