Simple definition of region is an area that have their own boundary. A region is a land area which has typical characteristics. Natural or artificial characteristics may characterise an area. A region can be defined by language, government, or religion, as can trees, animals, or environment. Regions, large or small, are the basic territorial divisions. A region also a combination of more than two areas could be possible. For example, east Asia countries such as Malaysia, Indonesia and Brunei can be grouped as one region by a same culture that we shared. Some places can be grouped as one region because they have same religion and beliefs. In conclusion the region is subjective. 

            This concept is important in planning for development in term of social development. This is due to identify which area have the potential to be developed. For example, in Malaysia, federal government wanted to develop Kuala Lumpur because they already considered that Kuala Lumpur have the potential to be developed and will be the areas attract to rural residents to improve their quality of life to become better. 

            Other than that, region is important in planning for development is because multi-level planning and region classification. This is due to emerged of development from below. This was the interpretation of the awareness of the increasing dissatisfaction on the part of sub-national social groups including local and regional ones. 

            The main reason is mostly about social development or socio-economic development. They have to make sure the resources in that place enough to accommodate the region
