8-4 Holocaust Film Reflections by Reed Farrar

Today we saw how roughly the Jewish prisoners were treated in the camps. Some of the people running these treatments were fellow Jewish prisoners. Looking at what you watched in the film, how were the camp workers and soldiers, able to shut their minds off to the way they were treating these fellow humans? Does Anne seem like what you envisioned?
Why is Miep a hero of today's clip? Today the Franks were sent to a Transit Camp.
How does that compare to other concentration camps we've read about?

Anne does seem like how I would of envisioned her, but in the clips we saw today she seemed more joyful in the annex than what I imagined. She also seemed closer with Mr. Dussel and they seemed like they bonded more in the movie than what I imagined from reading her diary and play.
Miep is the hero of this clip because she went into the annex after the Gestapo left and collected Anne's diary along with other documents. She put these documents and Anne's diary in a safe place for her when she get's back from the camps.
The camps in the movie clip seemed much better than the camps we have read about because in the camps we read about the Jews had to get their heads shaved and numbers tattooed on their body. In the movie clip camps they didn't have to do any of that, they also didn't have to wear any prisoner type clothes. The conditions of the camp where much better than I would've pictured as well.

Anne seems more calm and nicer than what I envisioned. 2. Miep saved all of Anne's papers and diary. 3. The transit camp is much calmer than most concentration camps we have read about.

1. Anne seems similar but different to what I imagined. She seems joyful in the annex and seems to be excited to be able to leave and have fresh air. Mr. Dussel also seems to be more gentle and warm-hearted then I thought he would be, in one scene he was crying in Anne's arms which is very different behavior than in the play.

2. Miep was the hero of the first clip because she saved Anne's diary and put it in a drawer to keep until she returns.

3. The camp seemed nicer and not as abusive, they were laying down/sleeping really close which we learned about.

They could also wrote about when we could go to school only two days a week and had to take many mask breaks so we could breathe outside. If a teenager was to write about something currently happening they could write about the many school shooting happening and how they have affected our lives.

I think she would write about how technology is, and the struggles of maybe school friends and her life like she did. She always wrote about stuff she did around the house but a normal teenager would be going places with friends. Now people don't have diarys. She ppobably mostly was bored becuase she had to stay inside while normal teens would be out getting into trouble and doing crazy stuff. She probably wrote about how she felt being in the house and being told she had to go to the camps.

I also think she would write about politics, as it is widely promoted in public and on the internet. Additionally, she might write about things that pose a risk to people's health. Today we watched a classic episode of The Twilight Zone. A famous quote was this, "Beauty is In The Eye of The Beholder." Mrs. Tyler was considered ugly and the state law was that she had to be fixed. For this post write about how this show comments on Germany, or any Dictatorship where people who are different must be fixed. Yes she is mostly the way I would have imagined her to be. Miep is the hero because Miep hid all of Anne's stuff like files documents and most importantly her diary. These camps seemed better than the others like some of them they would do experiments and torture you instead of just starve and force you to work. There equal in ways to like all of them if your disabled or a kid or really old they kill you because you can't work.

If this movie was set in 2024, I think JoJo would take his inspiration from the president. I think this because the president has the most similar role to that of Hitler, in that they have roles of high authority and influence the majority. Ordinary people get easily sucked in to following a dramatic public figure because it is easier to rely on one person to "pave the way", and it is easier to follow the majority than attempting to be different. I think that it can be both good a bad for several reasons. Some of them being that it most likely makes people feel more comfortable, however, sometimes it is harder to see what your doing is wrong if no one wants to stand out from the majority.

I think that he will eventually choose the side of his mother, and what she is trying to teach him. His mother is also a huge role model for him, and he cares about what she believes and thinks. I think this because he is already starting to go against "Hitler" by spending time with Elsa, and as he spends more time with Elsa, he will grow more connected to her like he already is, and not want to endanger her. However, he will definitely struggle going against what he has been conditioned to believe.

I think he will join the resistance side because I think that deep down he is still an empathetic person. He has multiple people in his life (Elsa and his mother) who are against the Nazis. Furthermore, he's already beginning to dislike Hitler. I think this will develop further into him possibly taking an anti Nazi stance later in the movie.

I think that JoJo is going to end up choosing his mother's side over the Nazis. I think this because of JoJo's behavior has changed toward both his mother, Elsa, and Hitler. He is less friendly toward Hitler and more friendly toward Elsa and regrets some of the things he has said to his mother. He is also starting to realize that some of the things that Hitler and the Nazi's do don't make much sense.

I think Jojo was used to following and listening to not only his mother but also people outside of his family. All they talk about is how much they hate Jews and how terrible and dangerous they are. Until he meets Elsa, Jojo gains a relationship with her and I think this teaches him how to love everyone for who they are and not just their race. Elsa starts to influence Jojo to help him learn that Jews are just as normal as the Germans are. So I think Jojo will lean towards following Elsa but also still his mom.

Ultimately I think that Jojo's mom will win over Jojo instead of Hitler trying to teach him the right way of life. I think Joj's mom will win over Jojo because she teaches Jojo the fun he can have in life like dance, help people and overall just be free. Instead of doing bad all the time and not being able to have fun and be free. For example in the movie Jojo's mom tries to convince Jojo that there is more to life instead of being controlled by someone and not having to be controlled. She teaches this lesson to Jojo by using dancing for him to understand what she is saying. On the other hand his imaginary Hitler is telling him to stay loyal to what they are teaching him in Hitler youth and not try and help Elsa who is a Jew.

Between the two, I believe that the voice and ideas of his mother will win. I think this because as much as he values what the Nazis are telling him to think, and as much as he think he values their views more, he seems to always listen to his mother. Also, after the information he has learned for himself about Elsa, he may start to question their ideals. However, it will be hard to break the hold the Nazi's influence has on him because of how much he has been told to follow in their footsteps.

I believe this because I think that he doesn't believe in what the Nazis really stand for, but he just likes that it's a group where he can fit in and have friends. I believe that Jojo is really a good kid, but he found the Nazis to be the only people he has ever been good friends with his whole life.

i think that he is a sympathizer or cares a lot for jojo. He doesn't all the way agree with the nazis, like how his speech went at the beginning of the camp. He saying, oh well were probably going to lose. he might also be trying to make himself look good to the allies when they take Berlin, and not get jailed or executed like other nazis. he also might be a resistance worker, like his mom. i also think he likes jojo and knows that his mom is dead so he trys to help him because elsa is all that he has left.

From what we have seen in the film, he does not appear to be 100% on board with being a Nazi. He does not seem to be as invested or addiamate about it as others seem to be. Because of this, I think he saved them because he doesn't fully believe in what the Nazis are doing. Another possibility is that he knew that JoJo's mother was dead, so he did not think he deserved to be fully on his own. A larger theme I think this may be hinting at is it is ok to be different from the group, and sometimes you have to branch out to do the right thing.

I believe that the Nazi Captin didn't turn Elsa and Jojo in because he wanted to have a little sympathy for Jojo and Elsa because I think that the Captin knew about Jojo's mom being hung. I also think that when Jojo went into the captain's office earlier on in the movie with the book he was making. Jojo was asking questions to the Captin about Jews, so I have a feeling he knew that Jojo was seeing a Jew. This says that the Captin's feelings and loyalty are strong for Jojo, but doesn't have a lot of loyalty for the Nazi's orders because he helps Jojo and Elsa out by lying about her birthday. Helping a Jew out is against the Nazi orders, but he shows the good in him and helps them out. I think the director of the movie included a Nazi who went against the orders of the Nazis because it helps show the theme of the book that there is more to a person than just what is on the outside.
