The first piece of research I read was a book called American Values: Opposing Viewpoints by many different authors that expressed their drastically different points of view under the US's political spectrum.

This book first made me consider the diverse points of view that people have and how that's influenced by their identity and surroundings. Some of the ideas had explanations that included their own analysis based on personal experiences. Most of the chapters had broad, contrasting ideas such as liberalism vs conservatism, individualism vs communitarianism, and the degree to which religion should be involved in government.

The second piece of research I used was a GALE Opposing Viewpoints article on Affirmative Action that gave an introduction on the topic and provided different opinions surrounding it.

Understanding the nuances surrounding Affirmative Action and how different people approach it with diverse analysis helps add on to the overall idea of my project. This source began an in-depth research on Affirmative Action, which also led to my third blog post resource. This led me to think that this issue could be crucial to examine from multiple sides.

The third piece of research was about how Asian individuals are used to push an anti-Affirmative Action agenda and the article was Asians are being used to make the case against affirmative action. Again. by Alvin Chang

After my second blog post, I researched in-depth about Affirmative Action, watching videos made by both liberal and conservative people. I realized, when watching the anti- Affirmative Action videos, that they often stated Asian people being systematically disadvantaged by the system. I decided to research this further, which led me to come across this article. This led me to think about how certain groups of people can be used as political pawns.

The fourth piece of research was about Alabama's ex-chief justice and Supreme Court candidate Roy Moore and his identity politics surrounding his Christian rate

This fourth piece of research highlighted the effects of identity politics on the conservative side of the political aisle. Roy Moore used the bible and his Christian faith to defend homophobia, sexism, and islamophobia, combining the church and state and preventing a secular society. Although identity politics is often associated with the American left, I found multiple accounts of conservatives using it to their advantage as well.

The fifth piece of research was the CNN Exit Polls from the US 2016 Presidential Election.

This piece of research gave me insight on how different groups voted in the 2016 election, such how 94% of black women voted for Hillary Clinton, compared to just 48% of white women. This website gave a wide variety of identities and votes connected to that, such as religion, race, gender, education, and income. I can use this to understand and illustrate how different groups of people expressed their political opinions in the election.
