SWIMMING GAME: A swimming pool sering several times in a row on the ground. Your child should jump into the pool and crawl to the other end by crawling on the stomach. Made of foot towels. Different swimming styles can also be added to this activity. (Instead of matte carpet or blanket in the co-box.) Even if it goes swimming, there are many different stimuli from this activity.
CARPET RETRACTING GAME: It is related to crawling, rolling, commando creep, a ramp work related to hairs related materials or mattless materials. It can also be a dog, a snake or a tumbling dog.
CARPET DRAGING GAME: Low-height mats on the ground, taking a field with carpets. Let the kid be dragged by someone on his back or in a prone position. Try different directions. You can use this game with the puzzles in the form of bouncing on a mat. It is a useful activity for both attracted and consumed children.

Working with children with autism spectrum disorders is very difficult for me. Because work from a gut feeling and a connection with the children. It may sound like a bit of bioplanet, but that's how it works for me. That connection is lacking for me in a certain way. I want to understand what an action does to someone. The difficult thing is to give them space and give them the time to indicate what they want. Remove incentives and provide the right incentives. This is often difficult in a class situation. I think it is important that the class spirit is good, that the rest of the group understands why someone reacts in this way in this way. I try to ask unambiguous questions, when it is understood what was meant. Common misunderstandings arise from details that have crept into a task. In the morning I oversee the daily schedule, with the warning that something can change due to unforeseen circumstances. When something changes, I try to explain why this happened. I have a planning board in the classroom, fixed moments for the agenda, tasks and lectures, ...

So I would prepare a corner for her in the classroom, where she can work creative... study in a creative way...

A good methodology should be started with a reduction in the number of students per class, so that the teacher can offer the necessary assistance, work routines must also be created, including the arrangement of the room, the way of writing on the board, etc. autistic children are irritated by any sudden changes.
As in autism there is a restriction to the language domain, but there is also a very accurate visual perception, it will be necessary for the teacher to select
activities and methods. If very long instructions are given, ideally it is done by means of visual and nonverbal autistic stimuli have difficulties in verbal sequences. Perhaps because of this visual ability, many autistics become good artists, designers, and computer programmers. Autistic children sometimes bother with loud sounds that disturb them, which is why the teacher's voice, the school bell, the dragging of chairs and tables, the microphone, or any other kind of noise should be avoided or less livened up. And this sound sensitivity, can be used by the teacher as teaching methods, singing for children can be a great way to effect learning.
In the literacy of these children, if it presents many difficulties in the motor coordination, the aid of a computer can be used, because most of the time the autistas possess great ability in the handling of these.
When it is very agitated it should be sent to the sensorial room, if there is no school ... we can always create a room with the existing resources.

Autism is a neurophysiological condition. Autistic pupils need a structured environment, routines, a program, and information about what to do at each stage of the course. Changes in the program create turmoil, crises and cause insecurity. So I would suggest a structured classroom environment where the student should have a place where she can be self-regulating, a strict program without sudden changes, using computers in education as they are predictable and have good results in the education of autistic pupils. Also theatrical plays and role plays greatly help these children. Furthermore the communication cards - description of actions or feelings, work in the education of these children. Let's not forget how important the family is, as any training program if supported by parents has far better results.

Even thought students who have Autism spectrum disorders have unique characteristics (every case is different), they do have some things in common such as: the need for a structured environment, routines and information, heighten senses (loud noises, crowds), they are tactile learners (need to touch, fell things, enjoy things with different textures) and lastly the unique way they process information and they way their brains see and connect things around them (something which is fascinating to me). In Rosie's case since she enjoys art (drawing, coloring,...) I would use her interest to try to develop activities where she can excel in, such as art projects, role-play (I think she would enjoy drama), handcrafts, using play dough to build/construct things est.

I'm absolutely thrilled with sensory room. It's great help when you need to calm down some of your students, when they need to overcome whatever bothers them. As for Rosie, first I would have to know her better, to see what she needs and then allow her sometimes to leave classroom and to calm down. For that I would need some assisstant teacher because I also have to employ other students with whatever they have to do, I can't leave them alone. Maybe some part of the classroom designed for such needs would also be a great idea. But who can afford that? In my situation it's not possible.

I begin my contribution by saying that I have always had difficulty in becoming interested in autism, it has always seemed to me very difficult. Actually I had an autistic child in my class many years ago. But his symptoms were not very heavy. He had an average IQ. He found it difficult to be with the other children but slowly he entered and built friendships. Of course we worked as teachers. It was hard to express verbally, but even in this it has improved a lot. In short a non-serious autism. I also met several children with Asperger but also in this case, all children with whom one could work and build something. I have seen but I have never worked with children with a severe form of autism. From time to time I plan psychomotor activities for the classes in which an autistic child is employed and then I help the teachers to shape the activities so that they are more suitable for these children.
I also want to say, before answering the question, that the two videos of this module are FANTASTIC !!! The multisensory room is my dream !!! As I would like it in my school. Even Rosie's video is very addictive. I watched them several times.
That said ... I think the situation of Rosie and her brother are different from each other. In fact she is Asperger and her brother instead presents a classic autism. Depending on the two different situations, diversified strategies must be used. For both, looking at the story of the child who had been bullied, it is necessary to SUSTAIN inclusion in the class group. To help all children to get to know each other more and more deeply, to stimulate communication, to eliminate the fear of the different. Children know how to face these challenges. It is important to give some time for inclusion activities. Inclusion activities are mostly motor, play, dramatization and verbal exchange activities. At school you need to give some time for these activities. And this is fine, at different levels, for all children who fall into the autism spectrum. Indeed it is OK FOR ALL CHILDREN!

There are many suggestions to improve the daily life in the classroom for a child with Asperger. I list someone below:
create a predictable and secure environment
minimize changes
offer a consistent daily routine: the child with Asperger must understand the routine of each day and know what to expect to be able to focus on the goal
avoid surprises: prepare the child completely in advance for special activities, modified cards or any change in routine
allay the fears of the unknown by exposing the child to new teachers, activities, school and camps but in advance and as soon as possible after the child has been informed of the change to prevent excessive concerns.

Rosie's desire is to be understood and to explain what autistics feel and how they try to express themselves. That's because only if people understand you you feel accepted and really included. For this reason is extremely important to create for Rosie a stress- free, calm, environment where she could feel comfortable and could express at best her interests and strengths: acting and drawing. She could work with other students in a sort of cooperative learning on these abilities and create something all together: a school play , a picture book (papery or digital), somecomics or videos where she acts with other schoolmates.

I think also that the best way to include her in the classroom's activity is to allow her to express their feelings and use her artistic capacity, one way is make lots of work with draw and painting, not also in the hours of art but in all the subjects, so she can have positive results in all the subjects.

Today a field of intervention for autism is the Art-Therapy which is divided into 3 main areas:

1_ educational area: aimed at helping educational training paths.

2_ rehabilitation area: in support of rehabilitation strategies towards specific cases.

3_ psychotherapeutic area: in the context of the clinic of disorders and psychiatric pathologies.

It has been shown that the art therapy has effect mainly on four inputs: motor, emotional, affective and cognitive. With infinite benefits on the part of the patient in the development of psychomotor dynamics, postural and coordination, allows you to activate the whole sensory system and balance, allows you to respond emotionally to stimuli that would otherwise be too intense and cushion repetitive and forced psychomotor responses It also increases emotional participation towards oneself, such as self-esteem and self-satisfaction, and towards others, as respect generosity and gratitude.

In my school there are many SEN students and at least three or four with autistic spectrum. In particular, one of them L. is interested in nature, plants, flowers and vegetables. Since our school is a vocational institute ( hotel and restaurant services) we have thought to plant a vegetable garden ( tomatoes, aubergine, eggplant, parsley, celery, leek and so on) in order to be taken care by L. Well, he is very engaged in attending to the garden, he is happy when he can harvest some vegetables for our kitchen lab.His first thought when he arrives at school is to check if everything is ok with his vegetable garden and if it needs to be watered. He is so proud of his vegetables and he is happy when we praise him!

At the beginning of the video, Rosie talks about her sensitivity. She says that there are certain words that makes you feel stressed or unhappy. The people around her should be aware of this. Maybe her family, relatives and especially friends and teacher can be aware of these words. An informing letter can be send to those who communicate with Rosie on a daily or even weekly basis. If people know more about her emotions and what affects her emotions, she can have a more relaxing environment which, again, will help her learn comfortably.

It’s important to know better your student with autism and ask him/her about what makes them feel uncomfortable. Then it’s possible to find compromises or strategies of work that everyone shares in the classroom. If Rosie’s passion is art, then she should have more time during the week to focus on it. I think it would help her to release the stress or anxiety during the day. Maybe as a teacher, I ask her to decline art in different tasks that may be stressful for her in that moment, for example math problems (drawing quantities), etc… Or suggest a LSU group, if it exists in the school or in another place in the city.

On the occasion of the World Day for Autism Awareness on 2 April, the Erickson Study Center proposed ten educational strategies to involve the child with autism in the classroom, which each teacher could adopt to facilitate the cognitive and emotional development of these children. It can be summarized as follows:
1. Observing it ... to understand the form of communication that the child understands best and the way he communicates spontaneously.
2. Know it ... to identify the strengths and plan the activities also based on your specific interests.
3. Building the relationship ... reducing confusion, eliminating distractions and avoiding cognitive overload.
4. Structuring the environment ... defining spaces, organizing activities, making relationships predictable and anticipating changes.
5. Define the objectives ... in the short, medium and long term, in the perspective of a Life Project that develops more autonomy.
6. Define tasks and contents ... of adequate difficulty and which favor generalization strategies.
7. Help him ... using positive reinforcements and offering visual aids and models to imitate.
8. Communicate ... by issuing clear, concise and affirmative instructions.
9. Stimulate social interaction ... by making the child work in one-to-one relationships or in small groups.
10. Prepare it for the future ... using social stories, Augmentative and Alternative Communication or other assistive technologies that help the child to be autonomous in a real-life context.
These strategies applied in schools guarantee the real inclusion especially for Rosy to plan the activities according to her interest to involve Rosie with artistic activities related to the topics we have in the curriculum.

She needs her space when she feels frustrated so, as other peers said, a corner in the classroom is a really good idea. I also think that Rosie and other children with autism also need to be heard. Also, one task in one time, so that they can feel confident. In addition, the process of preparing for education must always be one to one. The main aim of the training should be to consolidate the skills gained with therapy and to make children learn and practice themselves.

Rosie is very talented / gifted in her artistic abilities and in her love of drama. She is passionate about educating others about what it's like to have autism, which is a real strength. By providing Rosie with access to a sensory room within the learning setting, Rosie can learn to control her emotions and use resources in the room to help her become calm and more focused. By using her strengths, such as drama - she can be encouraged to interact socially with others, taking turns and supporting each otehr

My view on a possible task for Rosie is akin to some of the other participants’ in the padlet.

Like Ana, it seems to me that using roleplay would be a compelling activity for Rosie as far as learning is conerned. By impersonating (a)character(s), Rosie would be allowed to use her perfoming/ acting skills and even develop them further , based on the different roles she would be expected to play ( possibly at different moments in the classroom). At the same time, Rosie would be working on her language and communication skills. I would go so far as to suggest borrowing accessories from the Drama Club so as to help the creation of different characters, seeing that being a haidresser is one of Rosie’s favourite jobs, the use of accessories might the activity more powerful. The fact that roleplaying involves a group of students working together may well add to its relevance.

Secondly, I go along with those colleagues who claim that the sue of the sensory room might be beneficial. Yet, because not all schools possess one such facility, the creation of a drawing space / corner would suffice. This “safe space” (Snezana’s expression) would be used by Rosie to relax and to get ready for her lessons. On the one hand, she would be able to give wings to her imagination and let out her emotions and feelings. On the other hand, it could be a way for Rosie to overcome Rosie’s episodes of sensitivity. I believe that with the correct amount of guidance, support and dialogue, such episodes (and even tantrums) are likely to become less frequent.

Teachers’ attention, care and understanding would certainly prove that the people working with her at school do understand autism and its impact upon the life of students. Lastly, both tasks would add to Rosie’s self-esteem and confidence as “special and unique”.

Graça

Donatella Passiatore, ItalyI teach in a high school and I also gained experience in the Middle School. Both as a specialist teacher in support and, as in the last 20 years, as a teacher of Drawing and History of Art. If I had to prepare resources, methodologies or activities for Rosie, I would firstly involve all the teachers in the class, the specialists in the support that follow, the family and the medical staff to look for the right path to follow. By teaching an artistic subject, I would make it participate in the laboratory practice activities and I would propose works modeled with the clay that is known, has the ability to relax and at the same time is the creative artistic activity with which it seems to relate positively. At other times, through videos or prints of works of art, I would invite them to reproduce them in a free manner even for details, experimenting with other pictorial graphic techniques such as collage, painting and drawing. Each experience always with classmates and at the end of the various activities, I would set up an exhibition in which to exhibit his work together with those of other comrades. So try to meet his special needs without ever neglecting the integration with the class group.

Rosie can illustrate whatever we do during lessons and in that way even help in the process of implementation of UDL. Her illustrations can be used by other children who are visual types. She can also help put up school plays and take part in them. Further on, her sensitivity along with her self confidence could be used to create stronger bonds among all students because she is an outgoing, outspoken person and an influencer as well. She is a perfect example of how different means more. So, there are numerous activities she can take part in and I consider having a child such as Rosie in the classroom to be a gift.

For example, after reading a story, she can get dressed (For drama activities, I usually go to class with a box filled with clothes and accessories) and do the drama of the story. I would not expect her to present all details. Before doing the drama, she can complete a story board of the story. She can choose 5-8 important events of the story. She can draw pictures of the events in boxes by following the order of events. She can include the characters, objects, etc. in her drawings. Then, she can use the story board to practice for her drama show which will set an outline for her. I think she would enjoy these activities and her classmates would enjoy and appreciate her too.

We must respect the rythm and pattern of learning. The diferente Styles of art are a great help for children. They need release stress and emoticons. They need silence. They need coordination. They need time. Time is very importante to help them. I know a little girl with autismo and she love music. So every day, music therapy help her to facilitating and promoting communication, relationship, expression and organization. Music therapy meets the specific needs of each person.

I’ve been astonished by Rosie performance. She is marvellous! "Because of my AS I am able to be myself completely, I don't feel any urge to try and conform or be 'normal' which is something I am very grateful for.” Well She has a vivid imagination, which helps with her writing. Although the world inside her mind gives her much of the joy that she gets from her life. And as an asperger girl, because of her lack of social understanding, people sometimes perceive her as rude. As a teacher, I’ll try to support her in social abilities involving her and her class peer working together cooperatively . On writing a drama for example. She is more likely to be enrolled in speech and drama lessons and this provides an ideal and socially acceptable opportunity for coaching in body language. She has a prodigious memory and this can include reciting the dialogue for all characters in a play and memorising the dialogue or ‘script’ of real life conversations Acting can subsequently become a successful occasion to espress her self together with her peers.

It is indicated that an activity ends before the student gets tired or bored. If the activity ends after these signs appear and the child attempts to quit, he will learn ways to "escape" from these activities before they end.
So changing the activity or a brief break before becoming bored, would be a solution ('You worked hard, you can stop now and you can.'), Leaving the baby for a short time to perform the desired activity.
Visual support gives the child the opportunity to access information, organizes and structure, clarifies expectations and information; helps him make choices; it increases its independence. The program must be varied, while the basic structure remains the same; materials, activities, part of the program need to be changed every day. By working on these changes, children are prepared for change and thus increase the level of flexibility and tolerance for change (the critical issue for these children).
It is also important and alternating between the way individual, independent and small groups do their work. The opportunity to make choices increases the motivational level. Every child needs to know what their own program is and the teacher has to review the program with the child

First of all I create a structured environment with predictable routines. The daily routine should be the same from day to day, only differing for special occasionsi. Then I give fewer choices. The more choices, the more confused an autistic child will become more confused. Next I select repetitive motions when working on projects. Most autistic classrooms have an area for work box tasks, such as putting erasers on pencils or sorting colors into colored cups. I also limit physical contact because, autistic children cannot properly interpret body language and touch, so minimal body physical contact is best. I allow students to stand instead of sit around a table for a class demonstration or for morning or evening meeting. And I encourage and promote one to one interactions with students to promote social skills. Since autistic children have a problem with social skills and appropriates social behavior this is very important. Opportunities for social interaction might have to be structured at first, but with practice, they will start to understand social interactions.

In children with autism (as Rosie) the learning process is complicated by abnormalities in the level of motivation and social cognition, which reduce both the propensity and the ability to learn from others.Social deficits, difficulties in communication or perceptive-sensory anomalies, tendency to repetitiveness characterize the child with autism, according to variable combinations from child to child. Laboratory and recreational activities are a useful tool for students with autism, who need to improve their approach with others (often very difficult). You can use different types of actions, depending on the specificity of the problem and the context in which it operates:1) Capture the child's attention 2) Propose clear objectives3) Make the social exchange motivating, clear and finalizedes. offer the child a choice between two activities that lend themselves to the cooperation between two gaming partners, involving materials of his interest and having a clear theme4) Emphasize communication: an emotionally positive but calm tone of voice and the use of facial gestures and expressions that accompany verbal communication underline what is communicated and help the child understand the "meaning" of communication with the other.5) Use a language calibrated on the level of development of the child and6) Structuring the activities: organizing the information according to a defined scan of the activities that will take place, their duration and their succession. This helps the child to understand how long they will have to commit and when they can expect access to the most welcome activities.7) Teach the child to communicate key messages: for example, the concept of «still» and «enough». The more the child has to express himself, the lower the possibility that he will resort to "problem behaviors" to get what he wants.

Through multi-sensory activities there are lots of things that will able to work for the child with ASD. Through multi-sensory activities they will able to learn how to manage their emotions a little bit and stabilize their bodies. But teacher still needs to be aware on the things that they will do for the child specially they are sensitive.
