A 2011 study highlighted the positive impact journaling had on adolescents who struggled with worry and self-doubt before test taking. It helps with improved immune system functioning. Journaling can reduce stress by serving as an escape or emotional release of negative thoughts and feelings, so it can help you mentally in that way.

While there is no confirmed origin for stress journaling, the modern diary is said to have its origins in fifteenth-century Italy where diaries were used for accounting, and made the connection between professional journaling and personal journaling. However, the first diaries were written by ladies in the royal Japanese court in the 10th century, and these records took the form of pillow books, called pillow books because they were tucked inside or under the pillow.

Get a journal, and a writing utensil, and write down whatever is upsetting you, or pressing you. You can relieve stress in this way.

There are a couple different ways to go about stress journaling. One way of stress journaling is called gratitude journaling. Gratitude journaling is a technique that has you keeping a diary of things you’re grateful for every day. To be more specific, you can recount a favorite moment from the day, list a couple things you’re grateful for that day, or just write about whatever makes you happy. Gratitude journaling is one of the most popular techniques of stress journaling.

Another method of stress journaling is bullet journaling, which is like a planner, to-do list, diary, and sketchbook all in one. Let me explain. A common reason for stress is disorganization. When you can't organize the things in your life, of course you are going to get stressed out. But bullet journaling is a solution for that. Instead of having a planner with preprinted pages, bullet journaling involves taking a blank notebook and creating your own evolving system to keep your life organized all in one journal. This way you can create an organization system that fits for you, and keep making it more personalized and custom as time goes on so you can organize your life easier, and be less stressed out.
