Directions: Get into groups of 4 people. Make one person the recorder, one person will talk to the whole class, and the other 2 people will keep the group on task. In your groups, discuss what you wrote on the ICW in terms of things that you thought were interesting/surprising/moving/important. Then click on the pencil at the bottom corner and write a post with a list of your names and 3 things you talked most about in your group.

It was fascinating how the teaching was pushed on social hierarchal structures. It was pushed onto black individuals that if you want a chance you have to conform to this type of role. Everything in the school mainly fits into school and social aspects rather than academics.

Idris was able to realize his situation, in navigating a PWI, at such a young age, as well as dealing with the school load. Idris, was able to adjust to the school, and feel more comfortable, while the older boy, was unable to find a place for him at that school. The boys were able to understand that they were different than the others around them at such a young age which was moving, opening our eyes to the fact that it was relevant to those boys so young because of the lack of diversity that Dalton had. Relating this video to the other topics that we've gone over like credentialism.

Found it interesting the impact on race on a Childs development growing into their teenage years. The little boy talked about being 1/4 African American children in the entire grade. It's interesting to see the intensity of emotions that a kid has because they constantly feel like the odd one out. In high school, he still talked about how it was like to develop friendships and how his environment from childhood affected his teenage years. The school also played a part in the boys mental health by not stepping in and helping more through tutoring or noticing the difference in behavior through the boys. They boys had much higher expectations for themselves because they knew it was more difficult for them, then other students, their parents also played a part in pushing the boys.
