SodaPop's motivation is to get his brothers to stop fighting with each other and to marry sandy. Sodapop just wants his brothers to get along cause he is getting caught in the middle of all of it when he says,"I can't stand to hear y'all fight. Sometimes... I just have to get out or"... "it's like i'm the middleman in a tug o' war and being split in half" ( 149). Soda also wants to marry sandy and just settle down and get out of all this crazy stuff, he implies all of this when he says, "I think I'm gonna marry Sandy. After she gets out of school and I get a better job and everything(16).

Sodapop has multiple different strenghts. One strenght is that he is an optimist ( in front of people), you can infer this when pony says,
" ... He's always happy-go-lucky and grinning" (3) Another one of sodapops strenghts is fixing cars ith two bit. You know this when ponyboy says,
"Soda Fixes cars and to see Steve and Soda, because they'll always buy me a couple of bottles and let me help work on the cars" (29).

Sodapop's is a very diverse character. He is a protagonist as well as a dynamic and round character. It shows he is a round character because in the begining he is more laid back, but toward the end he is more stressed out and confused. He is also dynamic because he changes throughout the book.

Setting

The setting in the Outsiders is used to show where the characters live. The setting is integral setting because of the Greasers neighborhood(not the best neighborhood) it really

sets the mood for fights and conflict between the Greasers and Socs.

The setting is important to the story because of the Socs and Greasers conflict. The conflict between the Socs and the Greasers is all because they live on different sides of a town. You can infer this when it says “I'm not sure how you spell it, but it's the abbreviation for the Socials, the jet set, the West-side rich kids. It's like the term "Greaser," which is used to class all us boys on the East Side”(4). This means that the Greasers and Socs are only enemies because they live on different sides of towns. The author uses this to make a conflict in the story which puts it all together.

Conflict

The book revolves around the conflict between the Greasers and the Socs, because the main conflict In the book is between the Greasers and Socs. The conflict is person vs person and person vs self. It’s person vs person because of the conflict between the Socs and the Greasers, it is also person vs self because of the internal conflict Ponyboy is facing with everyone fighting. You can infer it is person vs person when Ponyboy says “I sat down in a daze. We couldn't get hauled off now. Not after me and Darry had finally got through to each other, and now that the big rumble was coming up and we would settle this Soc-Greaser thing once and for all (91). The Greasers were fighting because they wanted the Socs to leave them alone. This means that the Socs and Greaser had fought before and that this is as the last battle. It is also person vs self when Ponyboy says “Johnny, I'm scared.”(45). Pony tells this to Johnny because he was confused, scared, angry, and also has a lot of emotions bottled up inside of him. Overall the conflict in the story is the thing

that makes you keep on reading the book. Without conflict you would not have a good book.
