I chose this book because it caught my attention. My eye was drawn to it because of the title. I liked the title because it is specifically about a teacher. I was excited about reading it to find out what the "monster" was all about.

The theme of this story is friendship. I saw the theme of friendship in this story because of the friendship that grew between Ms. Kirby and Bobby. Their friendship grew when they met each other at the park on a Saturday morning. Before, Bobby thought of her as a monster because she was mean at school. After they met in the park outside of school, Bobby helped her catch her hat that blew away, and she began to see Bobby as a good boy. This began a friendship that carried into school the next week.

This story is about a boy, Bobby, in school that thinks his teacher, Ms. Kirby, is a monster because she is mean to him. She is mean to him because he disrupts the class by throwing paper airplanes. One Saturday, Ms. Kirby and Bobby see each other at the park. It is awkward at first, but they start to talk and enjoy each others company. Bobby finally started to see her in a different way, a nice way. Once they got back to school on Monday, Ms. Kirby was being kind to Bobby because of their friendship, but Bobby started throwing paper airplanes again and made Ms. Kirby become a monster again.

I enjoyed this book because I think my students would love it. I believe that just about all students think of their teacher as a "monster" and that they are all against the students. Students also believe that it would be awkward to see their teacher outside of school, but this book lets students see that seeing the teacher outside of their normal school setting could be fun. They can also see that teachers are not all mean and scary all the time, but sometimes they have to be like that to help the students learn to the best of their ability.

The best part of the book in my opinion would be when Ms. Kirby and Bobby went up to Bobby's favorite spot in the park and threw paper airplanes. In this part of the book, it really showed Ms. Kirby and Bobby bonding over something that Bobby enjoys. I would recommend this book to other teachers for their classrooms because i think that all students should realize the point of this story, teachers are not always monsters. I would read other books by this author because I like his illustrations and his unique outlook on teachers.

I think this is a great book for teachers to have in their classroom and to read to their students because of the lesson that is taught in the book. This is an overall good book, and I would love to read more books by this author. The most important thing to take from this book is the theme of friendship between Ms. Kirby and Bobby that is shown throughout the plot.
