A number of insect pests attack it, and potential diseases typically cause it to be a very short-lived tree. Feeding and burrowing in the leaves and stems are where insects prevail and aspen bark is a major winter food source for elk. One more interesting fact is that aspen bark contains salicin, a chemical closely  related to aspirin.</div>]]></description>
