All of the points are important as they overlap and are needed by one another. Humanity needs all points to survive and live comfortably. Singapore needs to keep up it's image of a Clean and Green City while keeping up its finances and economic growth. The government also needs to keep the people happy and support all age groups as well as maintaining its relationships with other countries and allies, all while maintaining cultural heritage and yet constantly renovating the city to make it a Modern Metropolis. Singapore may look like it was randomly thrown together using different prices from different times, but we are always changing and slowly evolving. All aspects are nessasary for growth , neither can be taken away,or we will collapse. Singapore is an amazing city and country, if you take away anything, the place will lose its charm and everything built over the years, will collapse. In short, these aspects are just like Singapore, we rely on one another to grow.

Also, they must care for the wellbeing of the environment, creating green spaces and reducing greenhouse gases using renewable energy. A sustainable city from my vision is also that it must meet its basic needs of its inhabitants, while creating sustainable living condition for all (eg disabled/the sick). The city should be fair to all people despite their colour, religion, gender and more. Another thing is that people really makes efforts to reuse, reduce and recycle regularly, save water and energy and care about the earth.

My vision of a sustainable city is a place where nature and technology work together. Green spaces like parks, trees, and rooftop gardens are everywhere, helping clean the air and cool the environment. Buildings use solar panels and wind energy to power themselves, reducing the need for fossil fuels. Public transport is fast, electric, and easy to use, so people don’t need cars. There are many bike lanes and walking paths, making it easy to get around on foot or by bike.

The city’s buildings are built with materials that are energy-efficient and can be recycled. Waste is carefully managed through recycling, composting, and reducing what ends up in landfills. People grow their own food locally in community gardens and urban farms, cutting down on the need for transportation and reducing food waste.

In this city, people work together and share resources. The economy is circular, meaning products are designed to be reused, reducing waste and creating less pollution. Everyone is taught about caring for the environment, and making eco-friendly choices is part of daily life. The city is a place where people live in balance with nature, helping the planet while also making life better for everyone who lives there.

This releases less greenhouse gas into the environment and saves fossil fuels for the future. This way there will be more oxygen and less carbon dioxide. We can also grow more trees. Picking up litter keeps singapore cleaner and we generate less waste. Generating less waste saves more space and resources.

There are 5 necessities of life that have to be taken into account for sustainability when it comes to the vision of a sustainable city - energy, waste, water, nature and transport.

Electricity, a form of energy harnessed by burning fossil fuels among other ways, has become inetgral for day to day life in our technologically advanced world. By offing electrical appliances when unnecessary we can conserve alot of energy and preserve fossil fuels, which will be useful for the next generations to come.

Waste is something that uses up space and energy to transport and get rid of. By reducing use of unnecessary items/products and buying only how much food we need we reduce consumption of these resources which will be useful to future generations.

Water, an important and vital resource, can be sustained by turning of taps when brushing and taking shorter showers, we can conserve it for the use of future generations.

Nature is something that is necessary for human survival and this has to be preserved. By cycling or walking to nearby destinations we save energy and can utilise the walk/cycling ways in Sg.

Public transport is something that is vital for saving energy and in turn conserving energy ergo fossil fuels for future generations to use.

A sustainable city in Singapore would be a place where people, nature, and technology work together in harmony. It would have green buildings covered with plants, not just for beauty but to keep the air clean and cool. Solar panels would be on rooftops everywhere, providing clean energy to power our homes and schools.

Sana, Rachel, Yazhini, Shanice

The sustainable city

The ideal sustainable city of the future should be a thriving, eco-friendly city that suites the well-being of both the citizens and the environment. The city should be powered by 100% renewable energy sources like solar, wind, and hydroelectric power. This will help significantly reduce the city's carbon footprint and make us rely lesser on fossil fuels. In addition, the city should also have green infrastructure, such as a lot of parks, gardens, and greenery. These spaces would help stop the urban heat island effect, support local biodiversity, and provide citizens with peaceful retreats from the hustle and bustle of city life. Furthermore, the city's transportation system should be designed with efficiency and sustainability in mind, featuring electric and self-driving vehicles, as well as comprehensive public transit options.A key aspect of the ideal sustainable city is its approach to waste management. The city should attempt for a zero-waste policy, where all waste is recycled, reused, or converted into energy to be a sustainable city.

Our definition of a sustainable city is a place that has a lot of parks and greenery. There is a very low carbon footprint as more residents use smart public transportation like buses or walk/cycle instead of using cars. There is also more local support for gardening and an increase in garden houses. There is an increase in eco-friendly houses. Everybody controls their water and energy usages. There is less food waste and waste is used as compose to fertilise plants and trees. Our carbon admission is very low and little to no litter around. More trees are planted to increase the amount of fresh air in our surroundings. The wildlife is thriving due to this too. All households do not overuse electricity by turning off the air con when not in use and turning the lights off when not needed. Also, one can use the three R’s which are reuse, reduce, recycle. We can reuse water we used to wash our vegetables or fruits to use to water plants. Not only that but we can add more solar panels to reduce the use of electricity. We can also reuse plastic materials to create other useful items. There can also be a reduce in fast fashion. This will reduce excess waste from being thrown away.

A sustainable city will minimise wastage of water, electricity and food. Moreover, more drivers will be environmentally conscious, and choose to responsibly manage their carbon footprint. In this city, residents will do their best to reduce water wastage. For example, they will take shorter showers and reuse the water they use to wash vegetables to water their plants. This will benefit both the city and the environment, making it more sustainable. Residents will ensure that they save electricity by turning off electrical appliances when they are not in use. They will opt for using solar energy which is a renewable source of energy compared to fossil fuels. People will reduce their food wastage by buying portions that they need and not overbuying. They can also compost their food scraps such as fruit and vegetable peels and meat bones. They can also use their leftovers to create other dishes instead of throwing them away if stored properly. Lately, they will encourage the use of Electric Vehicles (EV). This eco friendly approach will help to contribute to a more sustainable and livable city.

An example is using solar powered energy instead of burning fossil fuels. This releases less greenhouse gas into the environment and saves fossil fuels for the future. This way there will be more oxygen and less carbon dioxide. We can also grow more trees. Picking up litter keeps singapore cleaner and we generate less waste. Generating less waste saves more space and resources. There are lesser people using cars and more people walking and using bicycles. There will be more rubbish bins around Singapore to ensure a cleaner Singapore. With all these improvements, Singapore will become a cleaner, greener and less air polluted environment.

Less food waste and clean up after ourselves . Industrial should produce lesser greenhouse gases . We should be responsible and use dustbin for our trash and not our waterbodies such as rivers , lakes , oceans and sea . Stable clean water for everyone in our country , enough food for everyone and no one starves, good education for children . Less cutting down of trees and burning them . We should have clean water and our own water that we recycled and generated like NEWater , so our citizens can have clean water to drink and have enough water to last a long time and we would not have to worry about countries not providing us water so we can be our own sustainable city is. Lastly we can also grow our own plants in a vertical way so we can save space and have our own food so we can survive in time of crisis and on our own .

our vision of a sustainable city is where there are many trees, green parks, and clean waters. we also visualise more people travelling via public transport and bicycles rather than cars, so the air is fresh and clean for us to use. the city should be clean and accessible for people. the buildings could be smart as well, using energy from the sun and wind, and recycling water to save every drop. in this city, we imagine nothing going to waste. every person’s trash and waste will be turned into energy or will be reused to make many new things. more people will be growing food in their only small gardens in their homes. everyone will only use energy they need and save. we imagine more solar panels and wind turbines being built to provide more energy without contributing to the enhanced greenhouse effect. the city’s streets will be safe and full of life. schools will teach their students to care for the planet and people will work together to keep the city clean and sustainable. our sustainable city will not just be about living better than today but to also make sure that our future generations can enjoy the same. it will be a big team effort to protect our home.

Qn 3

As an urban planner, economic is the most important function as it helps with the city development. Other countries would want to work with us to supply us with things that singapore needs. We should have money to build mroe buildings and improve the technology. Singapore attracts mroe tourists as we can build more attractive tourist spots. It can also create more job opportunities and support those who are in need of money and supplies. We can invest more money into more transport systems and more train lines.

Like the Marina Bay, that area was transformed from swampland and industrial sites into a thriving business, financial, and leisure district. The economic rationale behind this project was to create a global hub for commerce and tourism, driving both international investments and high-end residential development.

Number 3: The most important function is environment, because without an Friendly environment we will have air pollution. We can also generate less waste example like recycle, reuse, reduce. We can reduce the usage of water by not showering for too long and also dont leave the tap running. Therefore also don't waste a lot of trash as there are many food wastage and also when buying food there are times where people throw away their food and this causes the semaku landfill to overflow. Only buy what is needed and also if Buy snacks as in small packets do consume but today or tomorrow. Singapore role as a global financial hub is arguably it's most critical function. The country tribes on trade l, finance, and services, with industries like banking, logistics and technology driving it's economy.

Its function as a major Maritime and aviation hub is vital l. The port of Singapore is one of the busiest in the world , and Changi airport is a key international transit hub

Bumpy yellow indicators on the floor will be installed for the visually impaired.

The city will be able to generate revenue by installing tourist attractions and hotels for foreigners. Taking advantage of new technology, the city will have modern installments for security measures e.g. facial recognition, databases for fingerprints and previous records for offences.

The city will be safe, healthcare and education will be available to the public as well as police stations to report crimes. Citizens will be taught how to live independently so they can function properly as an adult and a society altogether.

Our vision of a sustainable city is that it is an urban area that meet its citizens needs in an eco-friendly way such as public transportation that will be powered by clean energy, with electric buses, trains and bike sharing system making the city easily navigable without the need for personal car. A sustainable city also needs responsible people as they are the ones who can maintain a healthy and green environment and city. If they were not responsible people in the city , there would be waste lying everywhere. A sustainable city also needs water conservation as there would also be a scarcity of water. We should also follow the 3rs, reuse , reduce and recycle. This would save the country’s resources and will be more cleaner and greener! Renewable energy is also important , we can accomplish by renewable energy resources by using solar panels and wind mills. It is a simple and cost effictive way to become sustainable. In a nutshell a sustainable city needs efficent, emission free transport, sustainable food production, eco-friendly housing development and practices, effective waste management, and green city spaces . Cities are apart of larger urban areas. Larger urban areas have higher population so we should include cities having downtown areas, buildings, highways, and other transportation networks. Businesses, a large population, and a unique cultural landscape identify a city, whereas urban locations include non-rural areas like the city and suburbs. Overall, this is what makes a sustainable city.

Hence we decide to use solar panels as it does not consume a lot of space and solar energy is a renewable source. NE water reduces the need for freshwater extraction, making the water supply more sustainable. It also cuts down on the environmental impacts of wastewater disposal.

There would be a lot of sky gardens on all the bulidings to improve air quality and energy efficiency. Electic cars would replace the gas powered cars we use now so we don’t have to dig the earth for more fossil fuels. This will also reduce pollution making the air fresher and won’t waste energy. There would be more parks so be can enjoy the nature sceneries and walk around instead of using cars. It would also be easy for people to find places to hang out. Everyone would recycle daily to reduce waste and the city cleaner. With all these improvements, the city will not only be cleaner but fresher and cooler. Overall this would be great for the environment and will be a greater place to live.

A sustainable city is a dynamic and resilient urban space that people live in. It is powered by clean, renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, and geothermal, reducing usage of fossil fuels and decreasing carbon emissions. Energy-efficient buildings, equipped with smart technologies, natural resources like sunlight and wind, ensuring that consumption is optimised and waste is minimised. The city’s transportation system is interconnected, with electric buses, trains, and bike-sharing programs offering seamless, low-emission alternatives to private cars.

Green infrastructure, such as parks, green roofs, and urban forests, is scattered throughout the city, providing spaces for recreation, biodiversity, and climate regulation. These green areas also help manage stormwater, preventing flooding and reducing the urban heat island effect. Waste is recycled and repurposed through circular economy principles, with minimal landfill use and a focus on reusing materials to create new products.

The city is designed to ensure that all residents have access to clean air, safe public spaces, affordable housing, and opportunities for education and employment. It fosters a sense of community, where people collaborate on sustainability initiatives, innovate with green technologies, and work together to create a thriving, equitable, and eco-friendly future for all.
