Napoleon riding his white Horse crossing the Alps. This famous painting was supposed to represent when Napoleon and his army was in pursuit of the Austrian army that was taking over part of the French territory in Italy, Genoa. Napoleon had planned to surprise the Austrians by appearing in front of them passing thru the St. Bernard Pass in the Alps. This painting was a gift from the King of Spain, Carlos Antonio Pascual Francisco Javier Juan Nepomuceno José Januario Serafín Diego, to Napoleon, as the two governments had helped each other during the war.
Source: http://www.napoleon.org/en/essential_napoleon/key_painting/files/482581.asp

Napoleon, although being crowned as emperor of the french, wasn't born french. His name was Napoleone di Buonaparte, born August 15 of 1769, he was from the island of Corsica, a small island located at the South-East of France, in the Mediterranean Sea. Although, being right now french territory, when Napoleon was born, it was its own nation. it wasn't until one year after Napoleon's birth that France took over Corsica. Napoleon's family moved to France years later and, in order not to get bullied at school, Napoleon changed his name to a "frenchier" name; Napoleon Bonaparte.
Source: http://www.biography.com/people/napoleon-9420291
